I'm gearing up for my trip to Queensland next month and am looking for good history books on the area.

I've already read "The Fatal Shore" by Robert Hughes and really enjoyed it.  That's the stuff I'm looking for.

Any ideas?

Hey Bluepoof:

I have been to Oz on a couple of occasions but never to Queensland (sigh). You will absolutely love the place though. Very friendly & very safe. I don't know if you have ever been up to Canada, but OZ is very similar.

My old boss is from Oz & a scholar, so I will ask for any suggestions he may have.
I will PM you if he comes up with any good books.

I love Canuckistan!  Inlove  I'm hoping not to like Australia quite as much though .... a bit spendier to get there.  Lol

Thanks for asking your old boss for ideas!   Thumbsup

Right now I really want this book:

but I can't find it anywhere that ships from the US.  Gonna see if the AU distributor can ship it in time to get here before we leave!  Yeah, I'm a bit obsessive.   Bigsmile

Hey Poof, have you checked used book websites like Bibliofind?  Might be worth a look.

Hi bluepoof.

I went to Qld for a holiday late last year.

The State Library (in Brisbane) is a great 'office' while you're in Brisbane. Free broadband internet & e-mail and a great collection. Not to mention the view looking back from South Bank to the CBD over the river, whilst reading a local travel guide or whatever.

Here's their website

Here's their search catalogue.

And here's a book they have which is a bibliography of Qld history.
