1) Vincent Black Shadow-never been a more thouroughly manly motorcycle
2) Bimoda Tesi--a little weird, but cool
3) KTM 990--gotta have an Adventure or Super Duke
4) Triumph Sprint ST--or a universal Japanese whatever for mundane duty
5) Ducati 888, 916, 998--please, Lord, let me live just a bit longer

My dream bikes have changed over the years. Back when I wuz growin' up, my folks wouldn't allow me to have a bike so all i could do wuz read magazines and hoping to one day ride one of these beauties.

First was the mighty Maico 250. With their cobbly, coffin shaped tanks, they looked like they were built by a blacksmith with a hammer & tong but they could eat up a dirt track like no other. This was the bike I was gonna win the USGP on, passing DeCoster on the last lap for a glorious victory  Bigsmile

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/Orsono/1976maico250aw.jpg

Next, for sheer Italian sex appeal, there wuzn't nuthin that could touch a Benelli Sei with those glorious six tail pipes. Rolling art, it was. Think Lamborghini Countach on two-wheels...at least that's what I thought  Bigsmile

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/Orsono/DP37-1.jpg

Along the same lines but with a racing pedigree, back in the 1970s, nothing handled a twisty road better'n a Ducati 750 SS. As if on rails, the magazine articles all extolled, however, if you rode one today you'd probably wonder whut they were smokin' back then. The Italians can't even build a toaster without having it ooze sex appeal  Bigsmile

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/Orsono/Ducati20750SS20Roundcase.jpg

For some of that old school Rule Britannia flair, Norton had a purdy good racing pedigree themselves. Back in the 50s, Norton twins raced and won against fast four-cylinder Italian competition. The Norton John Player Special actually held off the Japanese until the early 70s until the two-stroke brigade finally consigned them to their fate. You need to realize that back in the early 70s, a production bike with a fairing was unheard of, giving the John Player special a really trick appearance. Still, a wonderful thing to look at and a reminder to times when Britain & Italy ruled the race track.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/Orsono/bartolinorton.jpg

Finally, a custom-built bike always has that unobtainium quality about it and back in the 60s, the Rickman Metisse was about as custom as they came with hand-made nickel alloy frames and uber-trick fiberglass body work. Just looking at them made me drool  Drool

Nowaday, times have changes and with age comes pragmatism so without further ado:

Sportbike: Suzuki GSXR 750 or Ducati 1098

Sport tourer: the Moto Guzzi V11 really plays my heartstrings and does a wonderful job in this role. If I had to choose sumthin else...maybe a BMW K1200S or a Ducati ST3

Trail bike: Honda XR650 or Suzuki DR?...maybe a KTM thumper...dunno

Play bike: Some kinda single-cylinder motard...maybe a KTM Duke or a Husqvarna...ouuu! or an Aprilia 450 v twin!

Classic bike: Bultaco Sherpa trials bike or a Harley cafe racer.

Well, we've already got four bikes in the garage so I guess our list is already pretty much defined:

FJR1300 (wife's touring/practical/cold weather bike)
FZ6 (wife's summer fun bike)
ZZR1200 (my touring/practical/cold weather bike)
ZX14 (my summer fun bike)

Some genres I'm just not interested in, like antique classics.

If I had to add a fifth bike to the garage.... hmmm... probably another KLX110 (we already have one for the kids, but I didn't count it above) to fully mod into a pit bike for me, just to thrash around our little dirt track in the yard.

Dream Garage?

I already have "my" dream garage. Four BMW GSes and a Kawasaki KLR 650. Of course if you would have asked about a 6 bike dream garage, I would have to add an MV Agusta.  Wink
