2007 Sprint ST Alternator Output
«
on:
May 10, 2007, 11:24:11 AM »
I read on another thread that the Honda VFR800 has 80 watts of additional alternator output than the Sprint ST. So what
is
the Sprint ST's alternator output?
And just out of wondering, does anyone know the Daytona 675's output?
It's nice to be able to plan for farkle, so I'd like to do this research ahead of time.

35-amp, same as the Speed Triple and Tiger.
The Tiger is 38-amp-hours, I'm not sure about the others.

What does that compute to in watts?
Well.. watts = amps * volts
35 12 = 420

Though the system is 12-volts, I believe it runs closer to 14-volts.
The figure I have heard in terms of max is 480-watts (that would be at 13.7 volts).
The OEM farkle circuit for the accessory socket, GPS, and heated grips is 10-amps.
The GPS is its own 2 amp circuit.
Grips and power port do share the 10 amp circuit.

I checked my Tiger manual and it said 38-amp hours. Sorry for the bad info - I re-edited my posts.
The ampere-hour rating of the battery has nothing to do with the alternator output.

At 12-volts, a 38-ah battery will produce 456-watts.
The OEM farkle circuit for the accessory socket,
GPS
, and heated grips is 10-amps.
38 ampere-hours multiplied by 12 volts equals 456 watt-hours, not 456 watts. Again, this is a measure of battery capacity, not alternator output.

I had posted this on a different thread but similar dialog, though it seems more appropriate here... so, has anyone had issues running the heated grips, a heated vest and the PIAA type lights? With all the talk about low alternator output I am a bit concerned about adding the lights to this load...

I had the same concern. I don't own any heated clothing now, but I plan to get some in the future.
Additional lighting is a must.
It disappoints me that the Sprint's alternator is significantly less powerful than the Honda VFR.
I may not need the extra, but it's nice to have that additional margin.

According to the Triumph service manual the 05 and later sprint ST has a 35 amp alternator. A 10amp hour battery. You all can do the math.
