Another rider is born......
«
on:
May 18, 2007, 08:44:58 AM »
My son Jacob just graduated college, has got himself a job that could be a career. He is back home for with plans on moving to Wrigleyville. Between seeing myself and his brother riding the last several years, and now two of his best freinds bought bikes Jake wanted to be on two wheels.
We found him a 1999 Suzuki SV650 (that makes 4 Suzukies in the garage now) with only 8045 miles on it. It is blue and naked, very light; I look forward to borrowing it for a day ride soon.
He has been trying out his brothers big Intruder around the culdesac and neighborhood to get the feel of the clutch and shifting.
He went out and got his learning permit and we pick up the new machine yesterday.
Afterwork I took him on Seekers Loop (which by the way Mt Tom road is closed).
After about 40 minutes from the house and only a few curvy sections gone by, we are at a stop light and he tells me that this was the best desision he ever made.....
We criused around the empty roads and got home just after the dark.
It was wonderful to see the smile on his face and witness the awakening from actually doing what most people only think about.
Riding
Now for some parking lot time tommorow.

SV's are nice. Do you want me to teach him how to do wheelies on it or show him how to take it off of some sweet jumps?

I read about your wheelie on here. You're an expert now.
And as far as sweet jumps - the coolest one I've done was on Brockway Mt Rd. It wasn't intentional -- the first time. We'll both be there in about 2 weeks. Put your tray tables up and your seats in the fully upright position, the Vstrom is going to take flight! I'll take pictures.

David,
I think if anybody outside the MSF is capable of teaching a new rider how to do it right you are one of those that comes to mind.

Thanks but as we where riding around I relized I have no clue as to the how pass on what I the little have learned. Lot of miles in a very short time is not really a qualifier as a teacher.
I never took the course myself so I do not even have that to use.
I do have caring on myside, and he is a logical sort with an even temper. His auto driving has always been resposible.
But the class is still needed and will be taken. It was part of the deal if he wanted my help obtaining the the bike.
I look forward to introducing him to the group.

I should have been more specific- You have that patence and logic that can make a difference and that is what will help- It already has from what you're telling us.

Yes, but the next opening is not until October.....
You could always try to get in as a walk in:
"
Walk-In Student Procedure
: Walk-in students will be selected using a lottery process. Those wanting to enroll as a walk-in will be given a two-part ticket. The individual will keep one half and the other half will be put into a container for a possible drawing on open spots. Once roll call is completed at 6 p.m., tickets will be drawn from the container to fill any vacancies."
