Not home, but at my destination in Sunnyvale. Highway 1 is AWESOME up until you hit civilization and then you get stuck behind idiots that can't even drive the posted speed around corners.  Rolleyes

I got stuck in horrible traffic in San Francisco, but I couldn't try splitting lanes because I had the system cases on. I was so jealous of the other bikes going by.  Lol
Then on 101 I was doing about 83mph (on gps) along with a bunch of other cars in the left lane. A state trooper blew by all of us in the right lane at about 95, and then pulled over some guy farther up that wasn't going nearly as fast. Only in California!  Bigsmile I'd last about 30-45 seconds in Washington going 20 over the limit.

That was leftovers from Bay to Breakers, plus the typical SF traffic. One nice thing about going through SF is that many cars move over to let you by when splitting  Thumbsup

I got home at about 6.

Spectre and I were going to stop by the Samoan, but he had to finish packing.  So I went ahead.  When I got to the Samoan, no bikes where there.  I hung out for about 20 minutes picking some road on the GPS, and no one showed.  So I took off from there at 8 figuring I would head home.  So I went back to Eureka, gased up, and put a little more air in my tires.  As I headed South on 101 I saw Spectre pass me going North, so I u turned, and caught up with him.  I let him know no one showed. he said he was gonna go try it, so I went too.  We finished up around 10, and headed on our way.  The breakfast held me until I got home.  Although I did have to stop for some espresso on the way.

Oh, and I took 1 also.  For the most part the cars were nice enough to move over to let me by.  And the only CHP I saw passed me going the opposite direction as I was stopped taking pictures.

I do think it's odd that the speed limit is 55, and they have signs warning of nice sweeepers as 25/30 mph, but the hairpin turns just have an arrow.

I'm home Home, safe and sound, and BEAT (as are the other two I traveled with (Jeff & Kris).  What a heck of a lot of fun this was.  Banana Banana Banana

We did Leggett FOUR times with the fourth one being this morning on the way home.  Jeff shot some video of Kris and me hookin' it up.  I  hope to post it later this week.  I said jokingly before we left Reno that the Sport Tech rear tire would be toast by the time we got home ... little did I know how accurate this prediction would be.

Between the three of us, we killed us a lot of elephants up there  Lol Banana Banana Inlove

Home, alive, wet and cold.  Started raining in Crescent City, and it followed me home for the remaining 8 hours.  That'll teach me for leaving the waterproof boots at home.  About 30 miles from home, watched a 3 car accident unfold before me in the rain at the I-5/I-405 North on-ramp.  I will say that I'm VERY glad I had the Pilot Power 2CT's at that moment, kept it upright through the debris field and over the plastic bumper in the middle of the road.

So I'm going to decompress with a Jack and Coke right now, and wait for the feeling to return to my toes.  EEK!

Rode with Tar snake hwy 36 to Red Bluff. Dry but pretty cool. Fueled up in Red Bluff and Stripped down to t-shirt under mesh jacket. At this point Tar snake continued east on 36 and I slabed it down I-5 and made it home around 5pm. No close calls, puckers or problems. A great ride.

Sher and I made it home about 3:15 . Luckly we didn't have as much fun as damen but We almost had a fuel truck loose it in front of us on I-5  before eugene then, leaving salem a semi had a tire blow in front of us showing debris across three lanes . I had to avoid that encounter in the emengency lane but made it through. Three rain showers,  5 cars had flat tires entering tigard , I didn't see what was causing it either. I can't wait to do it again

Thanks especially to Galo for the delicious cuban dinner and comfy futon on Thursday night, and to DantesDame for teaching me to play in the dirt on the way back.  Beerchug

...now, if only I could figure out who absconded with my WCRM shirt from the brewery on Friday night.  If you happen to see a (still unopened!) shirt in a red plastic shipping bag with 'Chris Brown' written on it, hit me with a PM?  I want my shirt, yo.

Just got home this afternoon.  Had a fantastic weekend.  It was wonderful to meet so many great people, and see so many nice bikes.  Now, the more pictures people post, the better the chance I can remember all the people who I met!

Riding the lost coast was great on Saturday, but I took 299 and then 3 towards home on Sunday.  The spirited ride up Scott mountain was one of the best road / rides I've ever done.  Unfortunately, after that I started dozing off while riding, and when it started raining I pulled over and spent the night at a Holiday Inn in central Oregon.

Summit of Scott mountain. 5,401 ft.

Yes I needed the rain jacket over my leather one on the way home.  Lucky I was able to find room in my bags for my two WCRM shirts after ditching my dirty underwear and polishing rags.

Got home about 4:30p yesterday. Rode a couple of roads that were hard to find on a map...
Peach Tree Road and Indian Valley Road just North of Paso Robles. Simply SUBURB!

In Malibu, a guy opens his door and dumps his Coke, cup and straw onto the street. What a MF!

Just North of LAX I see that he's been pulled over by the CHP. Karma...

I had a great time time. Thanks!

Love the hoodie.  Thumbsup

Make it home safe and sound last night.  The Bandit started acting like Harley on the way home and started leaking oil.  Not too bad though - about 1/2 quart over 600 miles.

Home safe and rode dry the whole way.  I even took a couple of dirt road side trips throught the redwoods on the way home, good stuff!  Thanks for all your hard work DD and Doc and Becky-zuki.  BTW the Comfort Inn was only $62 a night and had really nice rooms, a pool and a hot tub as well as brekky.  That cost was approx. $40 cheaper than Best Western, and $20+ cheaper than Super 8 or Holiday Inn Express.

Last year I booked the Comfort Inn for a single/non-smoking. I was bumped to a double/smoking at twice the cost because of a wedding. Screw that! I stayed at the Super 8.

So I went back to Eureka, gassed up, and put a little more air in my tires.

Bradley

Ditto that Bradley on the eating thing, cept I didn't get back till midnight mountain time Sunday evening. Great breakfast, great times.

Had to don rain gear before Lakeview, Oregon for a few miles of light rain, but it cleared up fast. left the rain suit on though for a wind break over the perf. leather jacket as it was cool at speed.

Saw an Aprilla rider parked south walking north on 395 north of Lakeview, turned around and asked if he was alright?  Said he was fine just ran out of gas on the long haul from burns to Lakeview, I said I had 2 gals. with me cuz I too had problems making that distance at triple digits which come easy thru that stretch of Oregon.  ....he says NO way! Fueled him with a half gallon and said pass it on.

Gassed in Burns and checked my rear Metzler 880 for wear cuz I knew it was getting thin, and Tar snake remarked about it in camp.  Shit....threads starting to show light donuts EEK!......why do I always let my tires go so far. Crazy

I limped it home thru the desert east of Burns for 187 miles, at no more than 65mph and no more than 50-55 mph thru the river canyon twisties.  Hell, I didn't think my 1100 could get 45 mpg!....riding 55 does have it's boring advantages Rolleyes

Just got home this afternoon.  Had a fantastic weekend.  It was wonderful to meet so many great people, and see so many nice bikes.  Now, the more pictures people post, the better the chance I can remember all the people who I met!

Riding the lost coast was great on Saturday, but I took 299 and then 3 to wards home on Sunday.  The spirited ride up Scott mountain was one of the best road / rides I've ever done.  Unfortunately, after that I started dozing off while riding, and when it started raining I pulled over and spent the night at a Holiday Inn in central Oregon.

Summit of Scott mountain. 5,401 ft.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u179/denydog/IMG_1612.jpg

Yes I needed the rain jacket over my leather one on the way home.  Lucky I was able to find room in my bags for my two WCRM shirts after ditching my dirty underwear and polishing rags.
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u179/denydog/IMG_1616.jpg

I also rode up 299 to 3 and north to Callahan, then went east to Gazelle and Weed.

I have to agree that stretch of hwy 3 just south of Callahan is amaaaazzzing. Some of those hairpins were like vertical hooks.  Leaned over, it looked as if you were turning right into the pavement......fantastic sensations.  I'll be sure to return to these roads running the opposite direction!

Oh and Deny, that Suzuki you got is indeed sweet, I was quite impressed!

I tried to help someone over the weekend. On saturday, just a few miles from Fortuna on 101, I saw some guy on the side of the road with his bike. Older Honda, I think it was a Sabre. He waved his arm, I pull over. He says his bike is dead, thinks it was a fuse. He had no phone, so I let him use mine. He makes his call, and then I ask how he knows that its a fuse, and he pulls off a panel to reveal some fuses. Meanwhile, I had pulled my seat off, thinking that my bike probably had a few spares, and it did, a 15 and a 30 amp fuse. But mine were the wrong kind, his old bike had tubular shaped fuses. I'm not sure if that was the problem after all, but he got in touch with someone and he was a short distance from the next exit, and it was mostly downhill from where he was. As we were talking, I saw about 10-12 bikes fly by going north on 101, probably going to Dr. Gil's house. I was hoping someone would recognize the effort with a "good sumaritan lap dance" at the Tip Top club, but that part didn't happen. Oh well. The food was comforting.

Didn't see you but did see the Tip Top Club. Imagine that... in Fortuna (if that's what it is)? Needs further investigation.

$40 cheaper than Best Western, and $20+ cheaper than Super 8 or Holiday Inn Express.

wade,
Where is the Comfort Inn?  Is it on the same street or further down?

I think I may have been in that group.  I remember seeing two bikes pulled over on the other side of the 101.  Not sure what they were riding because we were flying by on the way to Dr. Gil's.  Had it been only one rider I would have been inclined to stop to offer assistance.      That's great that you were able to help the guy out.

It was in the same area, towards the river, across the back parking lot from the other motels.  We looked at the pool through the window and remarked about, but it looked kind of unused.  BTW- I only paid $68 per night at the Super 8

I saw the Tip Top Club, but it looked a little unused also  Smile  Maybe it was the time of day.

It's been there for at least 2 years, but definitely newer than the other ones. For some reason, they were always either fully booked or pricier than the Super 8 or the HI.

Buttermilk & logicisme got back safely after a total of 1400 miles. We sought out the wildest way back to the Portland area we could dream up. Crater Lake is open to the public so we completed our plan to see it. I'm more than impressed. The water seems unearthly blue and deep. My thanks to all for making my first WCRM a memorable occasion. We went through 83 degree periods and then had to scrape frost off the bikes this morning at 22 degrees. We slept in fancy motels and some shacks with cross-buck doors and feather beds. What an awesome experience. Best of all were the great roads, STNrs & the eye popping scenery of the Pacific Northwest. We are truly blessed to live here! More to follow + pics galore.

Definition of a good friend:  Her bike breaks down on the second day of a 10 day trip and she borrows a car and follows you on your ride.   Inlove  Genia wanted me to thank everybody who tried to help her with the Bandit's electrical problem Saturday morning, we really appreciated it.  Thanks to you we were able to get it into the shop in Eureka.

We did a big 2-day loop with her in the car (36, etc.) back to the coast and then she decided from what we know of the problem, even if they replaced the rectifier, it would very likely burn out again and strand her somewhere else.  So she opted to say goodbye and head for her boyfriend's house.

I went to Crater Lake yesterday,  most of the loop road is still under snow but they had a bit of it open and I was able to see it, finally.  I'm in Grants Pass and trying to figure out where to go from here so that I end up headed home from Leggett Friday morning.  I was going to make this trip longer but now that I'm on my own, it's gotten more $$ and I don't think I want to be riding Memorial Day weekend, anyway.

Any suggestions?  I'm on the motel computer, figured I would go have breakfast and then check back later.  Even though I didn't get to ride on Saturday and missed the BBQ because we were at the bike shop and getting a car, it was a great gathering of bikes and it was so much fun meeting some new folks.

If you're coming down from Eureka you can make it back to Santa Clara no problem in one day while hitting some decent roads.  Hwy 1 through Leggett is awesome, I did that on the way up.  And judging from Google Earth, you should be able to make it to Eureka today no problem (167 mi).  199 South looks like it'd be fun.  If you want to go inland from Eureka instead of along the coast, you could do 101 to 175 E to 29 S to Morgan Valley Rd to Knoxville Berryessa Rd to Capell Valley Rd to Monticello Rd to 121 to 80 to 680 home.  That takes you right past Clearlake and Lake Berryessa.  A word of caution though, Knoxville Berryessa is narrow and bumpy but IMHO a lot of fun.  Morgan Valley has some great sweepers.

If you want to just make time though, you could take 101 all the way back and catch the Richmond San Rafael Bridge across the bay if you want to skip the toll for the Golden Gate.

Thanks.  I looked at the maps after I posted that and decided I'm going to head south and do some of the roads I already did, but in the opposite direction.  Not quite ready to head for home, I'll spend another day inland and then probably head for the coast.  Hwy 1 through Leggett, YES, that's why I want to head home that way.  I always go back on the coast if I can, it's my favorite.

In that case I won't tell you that Aufderheide Rd has been open for a couple of weeks as well  Embarassment

Where is Aufderheide? I tried to Google it and it didn't show. I hear talk about it and would love to check it out.

I was sad that so many of our "old-school" members weren't able to attend WCRM IV   Sad

...but am totally delighted by how so many "new-school" members are now totally hooked on the regional and have had such a great time!   Clap

Next year, we get "old school" (yes, that's you ol' Rocket) and "new school" together and we simply take over this corner of the planet.

Sound like a plan to you?  I know we can do better than the fool's that are in charge of it now.   Wink

Ok, then it's set...next year this time we take over the planet.   Thumbsup

The only issue I see with this is that large sections of the planet are covered with water... personally, I don't like to ride on or under water.  I propose that we only take over the parts of the planet covered with dirt and pavement.

Home safe.  After Genia decided to stay on the coast Monday night, I spent 3 days going up to Crater Lake, then back to 36, 3, 299, and a couple of backroads that were pretty interesting--Cecilville Road & Sawyers Bar, very scenic but not go fast roads.  I was checking in with her every day and the shop got her bike patched up enough they said it would make it back to the Bay Area, so we rode home together yesterday.  She wants to take it back to the shop here that didn't really fix it in the first place.

Despite the fact I have *two* separate devices to keep track of my overall mileage I didn't think to use either one... All I know is when I left it was 32K-something and now it's 34K-something.   Smile

She was so happy to be back on the bike and we had a great ride home down 1.  At our last break in Pt. Reyes Station, it took a couple of tries for her to get it started and we decided not to stop again.  I offered to follow her to her place but once she hits her exit, it's downhill all the way and she said I didn't need to.  I talked to her after we both got home, she made it home safely.  I hope they can figure out what the problem is since she's had the same part fail twice now...she loves that bike and it's the only sport bike that fits her.

I made it back by Tuesday after a night at Lake Almanor near Chester.

WARNING FELLOW CAMPERS: Chester (maybe just the lake) seems to be Skeeter City! I wore long sleeves and pants the whole time and still got 15 or so bites.

I'm pretty sure the little &*%^$^'ers will be killed off by some cold nights by the time we get there for WCRM4.5. I spent Monday touring around Lake Tahoe, hitting a Sierra pass (Monitor) than off into Nevada on some empty roads.

Once home I was off again for a bicycle rally in Paso Robles, CA. Did a century (100 miles in a day) which I'm proud of. Embarassment

After reading all the tire replacement/wear posts I feel vindicated by my decision for new rubber for both Triumph and bicycle.  Razz

Thanks everybody, especially Dr. G and the awesomely named Beck-suki, Andrew and Jerry for the campsite, JPred for ride Sunday, Big Block and Mrs BB for ride and photos of Avenue of the Giants and fun conversation at the Eel River Brewpub.

See you in Chester!
