Let me start off by saying I have over 10 years riding and my last bike was a CBR1100XX.

Now my delima is I REALLY want the ZX14 but I can get a killer deal on a 2006 1000RR. I like the style and comfort if the zx but I'm really a Honda guy at heart.

What I'm wanting to know is what are the issues you guys have with the RR. Heat baking your ass? Bad passenger seat/heat? I've never ridden one. Please help this may mean the differance between getting a bike now or in 3-4 months.

This may be the wrong forum for this but I've been a member here off and on for years. So I usually respect the opinions of the people here.

Take this for only what its worth to you, but being brand loyal only makes you miss out on bikes that may be the perfect machine for you.

A deal, a real deal, is hard to pass up.  Riding something that you don't really want to ride (comparatively speaking) is a bad idea and will cause you to miss the (right) bike for you.

Connie is new to scene but it is a tried and true engine.  damn tough choice, the local Kawa stealer is telling me August before it hits the showroom here in TX - go for the Honda and enjoy the summer!

 Headscratch

The ZX-14 engine is only 2 years old (the basis for the new Connie14 engine) and the VVT valvetrain is new and unproven (and stupid, complicated, and unnecessary, IMO).

CBR. Lighter, far more nimble, and they probably make Helibars for it and I'm sure they make a bigger windscreen for it. It's a no-brainer, IMHO. The ZX-14 looks like the moto-equivalent of Shelob from Lord of the Rings. As far as speed goes, what's the difference between 130 and 170 in the eyes of the law? You're probably going to jail either way.

What kind of riding will you be doing?  I don't care what ANYONE says, I can't see myself twisted up on a liter race rep for any long stretch of time or miles, nor with a passenger, nor with any kind of bags.  If you're just doing local canyon bombing, some occasional commuting, some coffee shop type stuff, the 1000RR would be fine for that.  You planning on tossing some soft bags on it and riding it 3000 miles?  I wouldn't do it on a race rep, you couldn't pay me to.  Heli's and a windscreen do not a GT make.  Yes, you can tour on anything, but in comfort?  Both bikes are powerful.  Both bikes have plenty of engine.  But only ONE is a true do-it-all kind of bike.  If you enjoyed your CBR1100XX, you'll enjoy the ZX-14 more.  If you didn't, then maybe the CBR1000RR is for you.  I gave up being "brand loyal" when Honda basically told me that the kind of bike I wanted (a more modern replacement to my XX, with better brakes, handling, power, but more of the Honda fit and finish) wasn't viable to them anymore and they canned the XX.  The ZX-14 feels like everything the next XX should have felt like.

In the end it's your money, but I'd base my purchase on my desires for riding, and not necessarily on the deal itself.  That great deal won't be so great if a month later you're trying to sell it because your body has revolted and everything is hurting.

For the track, the RR. For commuting, touring and comfy fun rides, the ZX.

I can't pass judgement on either bike since I've never even sat on either (oh wait, thats a lie... I sat on the ZZR1400 at the Bike Show last year) however I'd rather pay a few hundred squids more and get the bike I'd been dreaming of, instead of going for a bargain and always wondering what the other bike would've been like. That is of course unless its such a bargain they're paying you to take the bike  Lol

^^^^^ Or the Beer Holder LOL

When I owned my XX it was my sole mode of transportation. Now I have a car. So the bike will be for evening rides, sunday morning blasts, and just for fun. As for the canyon bombing you must have missed that I live in Florida  Lol

I think I'm going with A cbr not the used one. The Honda dealer I used to work at has two left over 2006s. I can picck one up for not much more than the used 06.

Plus money is a factor since we have a new 8 month old at home. My days of doing top speed runs every chance I get are over. I wanna find the 5 turns we have here in Fl(atland)orida and rail those. When I bout my XX it was a great deal. I wish it were still around but since it's not and I don't need the bike for my everyday transport I think the CBR is the way to go.

If I wanna go on a trip I'll take the car or the wife's new X3. Thanks for all your input guys. I really do appreciate it.

Hmmmm.... The OP is from Sarasota, FL (no twisties). I'll vote ZX-14. I really liked it when I demo'd it last summer. Smooth bottomless power, very nice suspension and brakes, sporty but sane ergos. Handled well for a big girl.

That said, I have no issues sport-touring on a sportbike, but that's highly subjective (how the bike fits the rider). Liter-class sportbikes are huge fun, but might not be a good choice if the ergos don't work for you or you spend much time in traffic. Once at speed, the wind helps take the weight off your arms. Sucks in stop-and-go traffic though.

You did mention pillion seating as an issue. Only a sadist would put a passenger on the back of any litre supersport for more than 5 minutes. For the type of riding you will get to do the Kawasaki is an  obviously better choice.

I say the RR.  Heat is about the same as my 954 and XX were.  Handles much better than the XX and is closer in refinement to the XX than the 954.  Of the three the 954 wass the most comfy on long rides but the new RR is on par with the XX for ergos.
