I have Joe Rocket ballistic 4.0 pants. They are great, untill I realised they were letting in water. In the crotch area, it looks like the seam has come loose a little. Is there away of getting this fixed so its completely water proof again? I really dont want to shell out for another pair of pants.

cheers Beerchug

Check with an upholsterer (no, really).  A good one will have the knowledge and equipment to throw a stich in heavy material and they probably have done boat material weatherproofing.

And after the repairs, don't forget to scotchguard the hell out of the offending area. I know Colleen will come along hollering Nikwax, but I've always found that if it'll assist to keep my toes dry and warm, I'm not skimping when it comes to my boys (if you know what I mean...)

another noob question, what is scotchguard? This was the first season I had proper riding gear in my 10 years of riding. Used to be an old leather, gloves, and my dads old helmet. I would love to hear anything to help my gear, and keep it in good shape.

thanks

Also known as Camp-dry (depending on brand name preference). Basically, just spray on watter repellant like (but not exactly) silicone spray.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotchguard  hmm... just learned something new. Seems kids these days are huffing scotchguard for recreational purposes... dunno why (if they're dead set on burning brain cells for fun), they don't just go for the good stuff, like Goof-Off solvent... WAY more snorts per bottle I would imagine (hell, i get a head rush every time I need to clean black marks off the floor with it...).

But I digress... Basically, Camp-dry/Scotchguard is just a spray on water sealant that won't harm fabrics. First thing on any pair of boots expecting water/snow use in my house. Just let it dry outside overnight unless you want freaky dreams...

Follow-up:
That's interesting... Govt Household products DB has a great listing of these types of products on the market. (including NikWax stuff).

I have a pair of ballistic 5.0 pants for wintertime use and the zippers came apart on them.  The local shop that does my USMC uniform alterations was able to sew in some new heavy duty brass zips for me and they haven't failed since.  The shitty zips in joe rocket gear is one of my biggest complaints of all the JR stuff I have owned.
