Riders Warehouse has a couple of $20 thin plastic throttle locks.  As in a similar thread here I've had a crampbuster-style unit and have had spotty success.  I'm anticipating a fair amount of steady speed cruising on my next trip and wonder if anyone has experience with the cheap-I mean moderate priced devices.

I've been using these on my bikes for about - oh , what ---  16 years?   I need another, as some cretin borrowed mine off of my ST last month.   A couple of bucks at your local CAT dealer.

I've used che, er, affordably priced NEP units for year, on bikes from Honda 305 Street Scramblers to new Triumph Tigers -- never any issues whatsoever . . . .

very handy when the need to move your right haqnd around a bit arises

Yeah, I've got an NEP CC-2 'cruise control' on my FZ1.  Works fine for me; in fact I like it better than the bar-end types that you have to twist to engage & disengage.  A quick flip of a thumb works it.

WRT the O-ring throttle lock, I've often had issues of it flying off when going from the "locked" to "unlocked" position.

My secret is a $12 "universal throttle boss" (available at Whitehorse Press and anywhere that sell Kuriakin chrome doodads for cruisers).

That's how it supposed to go. But if you place the rubber strap half on the grip and half on the bar end, it dramatically reduces the throttle return spring's tension on your wrist, and allows you to take your right hand off the bar for a little while.

I talked to BigBlock in Fortuna and he has a Vista Cruise and loves it.  $34.00 at the shop and $20.00 on-line. Look like I may purcahse one before my next long trip.

My $17 Vista Cruise lock is great.  I have both this and an old-style (no Velcro) Throttle Rocker on my FJR.  Two thumbs up for each.

+1 on the Vista Cruise.  
I have one on my Buell and had one on my VFR.  Truth be told, I like them better than the much more expensive Throttlemeister - it was easier to just flick my thumb to engage and disengage that to set the Throttlemeister.

On the down side, on both bikes the vista cruise required a little bit of fiddling and grinding to get it to work exactly right.

I have had the vista cruise on my Shadow (30,000 miles) and now my Bandit (2,800 so far this spring- an ss1000 last weekend), and I have nothing but good to say.  It works great!

I just installed the vista cruise on my Buell, and because I have fairing mounted mirrors, I was able to utalize the handlebar mirror mount hole to attach the "arm", rather than the bracket that comes with the kit.  It works like a charm, but, It's rather wide and takes up a good amount of grip space.  I may cut the shoulder off the grip so I can move it over another 1/8 inch, which may be something you are supposed to do anyway.  

It takes about 2 minutes to install and remove, once you have it trimmed out to fit your bike.

I saw a photo over on ADVRider of a pretty ingenious (and inexpensive) throttle lock on a KLR: the guy had just taken one of those tiny-sized (like 1/8" diameter) mini-bungee cords and looped it (once) around the throttle, down in the slot at the inside edge of the grip—friction holds the throttle in place (but you could still open/close the throttle).

I haven't tried this yet, but I want to! (And it appears it would work on my VFR too.) I'll post a photo later...

I've been using one of these for a couple of years now and love it.  Did the O-ring thing before that but this is MUCH better!   Just finished an 870 mile 17 hr (each way) trip with it and it made the ride much more enjoyable.  
It's rubber so it can be taken off and put back in in about 5 seconds.... great mod!  Thumbsup

BTDT.  Have a CCS-100 and much prefer it to throttle locks, etc. 

As to "how much slabbing" - I've got one more or less regular trip that pretty much demands the slabs (that's how the roads go) and is 300-325 miles round trip.  Ah loves mah CCS-100!   Inlove

I use this all the time...even when running to the store and back... have gotten used to rolling off on the throttle to slow down.   I took it off once and my front end keep diving when I took my hand off the throttle....  
Using this thing it makes riding much more enjoyable cuz I don't have to keep my right hand on the throttle... and yes, you can use it in traffic once your used to it.  I ride with it in rush hour too.   It only takes about a day to get used to it and I doubt you'll want to go back once you try it.
