Hi, wondering if there is any info out there on replacing the drive belts, The bike belongs to a buddy of mine and we want to adjust or replace the  belts.. any info would be appreciated. Is there a inspection cover behind the battery? thanks  RCR

No 2003 ST3, maybe it's a ST4, or maybe earlier ST2, but no ST3 in 2003 as 2004 is their first year. Each cylinder has a belt cover on the right hand side, and the horizontal is behind the battery on ST3. Unless you have a GDSM, I recommend buying a "Desmo Times" ST maintenance guide. The belts have to be properly tensioned, and there are timing marks to observe. BTW, ST3 has a chain drive, and timing belts.  Smile

Ducati belts have service intervals of 12K miles or 24 months whichever comes first so if you have an idea of the last service date/mileage it would help determine whether they need replacing right away. AFAIK, the only way to visually inspect them is to remove the covers totally. Depending on the mileage/use, tension/idler rollers may need to be changed as well. Only a visual/tactile inspection can tell if there's any damage IE fraying/cracking, tooth damage, or if a roller is tight.

Just enter "desmo times" on your favorite search engine, and you will get to LT Snyder's site, where you can find/order the service manual. It's reasonably priced.

bump for Desmo Times.  I use his book to help me when I did my 12,000 mile maintance check.  I also purchsed belts from him also.
