Rita put the Ninja up on Craig's list Friday night. Within hours she had several e-mails.

1. "Can I pay with a check?"

No

2. "Can I pay $1,100?"

No

2b. "Can I pay $1,000 and $500 in two weeks?"

If it's available in two weeks, come on in.

3. "Will you take something in trade?"

No

3b "I have $2,000 of stuff to trade."

No

4. "The bike isn't worth $1,600. Here's the NADA link that says it's worth $917. Will you take $917?"

The price is non-negotiable (heck, she had 10 folks interested already).

4b. "Well _I'm_ not paying twice what it's worth, good luck."

No problem, we just sold it, pinhead.

===

She had a bunch of people interested. One lady came out just before the guy who bought it. She was getting back into riding. One guy e-mailed from Iraq. He's coming back in September and wanted his mom to buy it for him.

All in all it was pretty interesting Smile Rita didn't want the bike to go though.

 Lol

Selling bikes on CL is always an experience.  I get identical responses every time.  The NADA quoter is my favorite one, especially right at the start of spring when the market is just getting hot, regardless of condition, or they are looking at the wrong year or model.  Mr. will-you-take-a-check is a close second.  Some of the trades I've been offered have been interesting, but I've never bit.

Congrats on the sale.   Thumbsup

1997. It looked in pretty good shape. There was a handlebar shaped dent in the tank and the front fender and rear grab bar had a scrape. Looked like someone might have dropped it in the garage or slow speed.

I really didn't expect any problem in selling the bike. I was a little surprised that Rita let it go for so little.

selling anything on CL can be an experience. I've had offers for massages when I was selling an entertainment center, people asking to trade 20 year old trucks when I had the ZX-6 for sale, and many many more stories. Try putting something in the FREE section, the weird stories come out of the woodworks!

Thanks carl, Then I won't have any problem getting 2500 for my wife's '05 with 537 miles on it, except for two small chips in the paint it's absolutely perfect

Lol Messages... oddly I'm not terribly surprised.  The free section is always fun to browse, but I've never put anything out there.  Might be fun...  Thumbsup  I have noticed in the past year that CL lowballing has become at least a local pastime.  "Reasonable offer" seems to mean wildly different things to people.

Isn't that the truth.

3b "I have $2,000 of stuff to trade."

I would have responded, "As long as it is $2000 in cash - sure."

However, knowing me - I would have wanted to know what "stuff" they had that equaled $2000.

My comment to Rita was "fine, have him sell the $2000 worth of stuff, give us $1,600 and keep $400 for himself with our thanks."

Outlaw,
We just paid 3000 for my wifes 06 Ninja 250 with just under 6,000 miles on it.  Its in great shape and had racetech spring in the front, and brand new bridgestone battleaxe tires.

Just an FYI.  The guys at the local dealer told me that they can not keep the 250's on the floor right now, with gas prices being so high.
