I installed my GadgetGuy mount over the weekend.  (Side note: if you have a Triumph Sprint ST, get the SILVER, not the black-anodized.)  Took off a lot of bodywork, partly to run the Zumo 550 power cable and partly just to see what was under there.  Ran out of time and just put the bodywork back on, figuring I'd run the GPS in battery mode for the <5 hour trip I had planned.

Plugged my wife's iPod headset into the audio out jack on the motorcycle cradle, powered up the Zumo, got on, and selected an MP3 to sample the audio.  No sound!  So I fought with it for a while, trying unsuccessfully to get navigation prompts, music, cell phone (I synched my Blackberry) -- nada.

At this point, I'm pretty steamed, although no tools have yet been flung across the garage. Mad2

Then I realize: the cradle's audio out doesn't work unless it's powered up.  No power cable ... no power.  No power ... no audio.  (And this, coming from a guy who used to design/install car stereo systems for a living!)

Nice to hear that I'm not the only one who makes these kind of mistakes.  Sounds like a good setup you have.

Not trying to hijack but what kind of headphones do you use?  If you're listening to your Ipod and your Zumo wants to prompt you for a turn, does the music go off?

"Not to threadjack"?  Sir, you misunderstand this website.  Lol

I would lose body parts if I used my wife's iPod.  My plan, to the extent I have one, would be to load music onto an SD card and play off that.  (But I likely wouldn't, as I'm just not into music and other unnecessary distractions while riding.)  What I had planned was to have wired speakers running from Zumo to helmet; at first, just cheapo earbuds from Radio Shack, but eventually an Etyomics earplug-type unit.  However, my wife last night handed me the $50 Amazon gift certificate that my inlaws got me for Christmas ( Crazy), so today's plan is to buy the Blueant Interphone, Scala Rider or Motorola HS830 unit and go Bluetooth.

The Zumo allows one to set voice priorities.  I think the default is navigation prompts uber alles, so it would step on music or a cell phone call to tell me where to go.  (Again, not unlike my wife.)

Isn't maroon a deep shade of red?  Perhaps you were trying to listen to Maroon 5?
