Another GPS question. My issue with the Zumo 450/550 is how expensive they are. I just found this item. Does anyone have any experience with Magellan? I know they've been around for a while, and I noticed on the spec page that it's advertised as waterproof ..of course I would hope to never test it, but this does look like a viable option and I have no interest in Bluetooth, etc while I am riding.

I've owned two Magellan products and, quite frankly, they were the most frustrating pieces of crap I've ever owned.  Sorry to be a downer but I truly hated them.  The 3050t I had used a hard-drive for the data storage and crapped out due to the vibration on the bike.  I'm not sure about the 2xxx series magellans, but if you can't confirm that it's flash type memory storage (and not a mini-disk) then run like hell away from them.

Also, if you like to make your routes on a computer and then transfer them to the gps, then don't buy a magellan.  their software blows.

I broke down and bought a Zumo 550.  4 months later I have absolutely NO regrets.

I owned a Magellan 2200t for about 3 days.

Problem#1: It runs the embedded version of Windows CE. If its running a version of Windows, it just plain cannot be trusted to run reliably. Its not a question of if it will puke, but WHEN.

Problem#2: Apu's Retarded Cousin's Support, Slurpee and Donut services, INC. Yes, their support is outsourced. When I called to find out about something, I not only got a woman who couldnt even pronounce Magellan, when asked about waypoints her answer was twofold. First: There would be no waypoint functionality until the next firmware update. When asked what the timeframe for that firmware update was she said "I'm sorry but there wil be no firmware update in the near future."

Problem#3: Magellan no longer uses the term waypoints. They call them all POIs, as they think their market is to be dumbed down for soccer mom's.

Problem#4: Should I go on?

Wow! Ok then. Thanks for the input, and saving me from making a purchase I might have regretted later  

  So it looks like I might eventually be assimilated into the Zumo hoard ..

Or I could just stay with my foldout AAA maps..    $500+ is a couple of sets of tires with change left over for some gas ...

Its truly a case of you get what you pay for. Yes, Garmin is more expensive. Comparing Garmin to Magellan overall is like putting a freshly cooked Filet Mignon next to a warm fresh plate of doggie whomp.

A little late to the game and you probably already made the purchase.  I had a 2200t for about a week.  The interface was a little weak for my tastes.  Resolution was low too.  I took it back and picked up a Zumo550 online.  Definitely worth the extra cash.

Actually, I haven't bought anything yet. In my mind, GPS is still more a toy   I've never gotten lost when using a map, and if I have needed gas, services or food, asking a local in area has always worked as well    Besides, they can always give a quick restaurant review
