Going on an 5k trip at the end of the month.
What do you recommend to pack a laptop in and transport it on a Bike?

I put mine in some kind of waterproof bag (I actually used a bag liner from a set of moto-luggage) and put it in my tailbag, between layers of clothes for shock absorption. Took it from Chicago to Cali and back with no issues, including getting caught in a monsoon in South Dakota.

Timbuk2 has a laptop sleeve that is VERY robust. It doesn't have any hard padding, but feels like it would do a great job protecting a laptop.
Actually... it seems the one that I have seen personally is the quilted one. This one is not quilted and I can't vouch for how thick the padding is. HOWEVER, if it is anything like the other Timbuk2 laptop products, it will DEFINITELY protect the laptop well.

Store it somewhere waterproof, or wrap the whole thing in a plastic bag.

I have their laptop messenger and it did a great job padding my Macbook Pro when I endo'd on my mountain bike and more or less landed on the bag.

+1 on the Timbuk2. I had work buy me one due to how well it protects the laptop.
Probably not waterproof but since I use a Givi, it's not a concern.
