Trophy buying tips

I'm knee-deep in the process of buying a new to me 1200 Trophy. This will be my first
long distance purchase. Other than the usual, Are there any specific
bike issues I need to be aware of? Any tips on the
purchase and shipping would be greatly appreciated.

I enjoyed the 30,000+ miles I put on my Trophy 1200.  I cant think of anything specific to look for.  They have a couple of quirks, but nothing major and nothing that showed up in a lot of bikes.  My major advice would be to look at and ride the bike prior to buying if at all possible.  2nd choice would be to get another ST.N member that lives close to the bike check it out.

+1. While it is always preferable to look over a potential purchase yourself, I'll bet a fellow STNer might be willing to help out - if you ask nicely. As far as shipping, why? Ride that bad boy home!

I purchased mine long-distance with no pre-purchase inspection (just great digital photos).  No regrets.

The 200,2001,2002's seem to lose their ignition coils around the 10,000 mile mark.  Just an FYI - it's simple and cheap.

I have a 2000 1200 model and friend has a 96 900 model.  Both have been great bikes and as mentioned with both had misses in the engine upon purchase.  Both turned out to be easy soil fixes and now they run perfect.  My friend came from a Concours and he said the Trophy is more fun and handles much better.

The front forks dive a bit when you hit the brakes but an easy spring upgrade if you don't like it.

These bikes are a big secret and deals can be had when you consider what they return.  Quite a few sites that offer good advice if an issue comes up and issues if they do arise are common and easy to address.

I am the friend and I love my 900. The Trophy is a wonderful machine.

I can't wait to get mine. I've already picked up a set of Hayabusa calipers and have
front springs on order. I plan to order a Hagon shock once
the bike shows up. This should take care of the few weak spots
that seem to pop up in my research.

Way to go! You will love the bike. What color did you get?

British Racing Green. I don't buy bikes based on color, but in this case,
the color clinched the deal.

Actually I was looking for that color as well, but the Blue is not bad.. Great choice..
