Sounds neat. Too bad the motor vehicle access was removed.

I'll do some research.Looks like a major hassle if you get caught. The one tunnel that looks doable is Sideling Hill.Maybe next week, maybe not.Could take advantage of a little "Christmas Spirit" if I get caught.

I've been to the closed Laurel Hill tunnel many times. It's on Tunnel Rd (imagine that), a nice public dirt road that starts at the entrance to Hidden Valley ski resort on route 31. You can't go thru the tunnel. The turnpike commission keeps equipment at the site and a shed full of road salt (I think). It's kind of a dump, but a unique dump. I know there are photos of it in my dual-sport ride reports.

About 7 years ago I made the trip to mid ohio for the vintage days with plans to explore the abandon highway in a car.

Well we found this entrance and drove into what looked like a firing range with the car.

It was getting dark and it looked like it would be a long hike to get to anything cool.

I would love to go back on a moto and explore.

From what I can find Summit Rd. comes within 500 feet of the eastern end of Sideling Hill tunnel. It's the one that seems most likely able to be ridden without hassle. It's also 6782 feet long.An exploratory hike would be prudent. You're allowed in there on foot or bicycle. No motorized vehicles allowed. It's owned by The Southern Alleghenies Conservancy a small land trust organization.

One of the abandoned tunnels was leased or whatever to Ganassi Racing a few years back for coast down testing-it was all top secret, but the chain link fencing, generators and Nascar/Indycar haulers were a dead giveaway.

I'm totally in for an exploratory ride!!

The kid in me loves to drive the sportbike where i shouldn't.  Takes me back to my atv and dirtbike days where the cops would chase you into the woods.

I think getting 5 sportbikes onto that road for a top speed run would be amazing.   Twofinger

I'll be doing this solo if it happens.Far less likely to involve cops and helicopters that way.

Garry: http://www.racecar-engineering.com/articles/technology/168820/the-mystery-of-the-laurel-hill-tunnel.html

Not a dump anymore...all of the rumors were confirmed in 09, its a unique coast down facility. Neat.
