Day's route

Every Christmas, I get my two-week reprieve from the cold and gloom of Texas to visit my family and home back on the Big Island of Hawaii.  It's obviously something I look forward to every year, but this year even more so, since one of my good budd...

Ride Reports
Here is my annual moto photo slideshow. 2009 was a good year, but a little down on miles. Most of the photos are from PA, WV and OH, but I managed to visit NY, VT and MA (for ESTN) as well as VA, NC, TN, and KY on a couple long weekend rides. It's just under 7 minutes. Hope you enjoy it!

General News
I won't spoil it for you but to say the letters B, M, and W appear a lot.  But here's a teaser...

Before the year is even over, new bikes and products are pouring into our offices in a continual stream of motorcycle saturation. We could easily go day-to-day like nothing has changed, but they say the holidays are a time for reflection and a time to be thankful. Plus, the truth of the matter is that a lot changed in 2009. From exciting racing exploits and technological advancements in products and machinery, to horrific economic impacts reverberating throughout the industry. Undoubtedly, this has been an important year for motorcyclists and...

xx Benelli TRE889K...Another Bike North America Can't Get | 24 Dec 09
11:57:59 by UFO | Views: 4625 | Comments: 17

Benelli
That's right, we're a bitter lot!  It's another versatile, seemingly affordable, and damn fine looking multi-purpose bike that is unavailable in North America.  Motorcyclistonline.com has a first ride article for all to read...and get us even more reason to be bitter about import choices by manufacturers. OMGOMGOMG

The downsized Tre-K has some legitimate long-distance credentials, too. It's based on the Tre1130K and uses the same aluminum and steel frame, relaxed steering geometry, ample suspension travel and half fairing. The motor is a mildly detuned version of the TNT's 898cc, liquid-cooled unit. New camshafts and injection mapping help boost l...

xx Another Kawi Z1000 Review [motorcycledaily.com] | 24 Dec 09

Kawasaki
The new Z1000 seems to be getting very positive reviews.  The dyno chart in the article is a bit of a headscratcher though, as no units are give for the horsepower yet the author claims the bike makes 128 rwhp.  Regardless, another positive review that the Transformers can take back to planet Cybertron. Bigsmile

The power delivery from the new engine is nothing less than incredible, with the real meat of the power coming between 5,000 and 8,000 rpm, which is where it's most usable in everyday riding conditions. The bike also revs out well . . . pulling hard all the way to 11,000 rpm. At one point I lofted the front wheel into a nice third gear power wheelie with a mere twist of the th...

Yamaha
Thanks to mr moto for the heads up.  Thumbsup Yamaha is sloooowly trickling out information on their new dual purpose bike.  Coming to the U.S.?  Uknown, but the multi-purpose bike market is certainly getting very interesting.

Link to the European site at the bottom of the marketing text...

xx Honda NT700 First Ride [motorcycle-usa.com] | 22 Dec 09

Honda
Here's another review of the new (to U.S.) Honda NT700 sport-tourer courtesy of motorcycle-usa.com.  They go on to say that it "could be the perfect utilitarian motorcycle."  I don't know if that's a good or bad thing...I guess it depends on your perspective and needs.  I'll let you be the judge.

Cruising down the road at an indicated 60 mph reveals slightly over 4000 revs on the tachometer in top gear. The transmission meshes between gears without fault, but the ‘box does have some play at the shift lever. Finding neutral at a stop is uncomplicated and clutch lever pull is almost weightless while still delivering a sensible degree of feel.
