My 18 year old cat "Chet Baker" is on his very last legs. Saturday my little buddy goes to the vet for the last time.  My wife and I have struggled with the decision, wait a little bit or get it over with. Finally made the decision today. I feel horrible but at the same time a little relieved. I have never had to put a pet down before and am dreading the day.

I feel your pain.  I put my 18 year old fella down last Dec. 23rd.  It was hard.   The vet gave me all the time I needed with him.  I got to hold him as he went.

I still miss that hairy little sucker.

Looking at the bandaid on the left side of the dog, it looks like it tried to fuck with it before.

Sorry to hear of Chet.  Take solace in knowing that your family gave him the best life possible and he relished every moment with you...

Thanks for the kind replies about Chet.

He could not hold out any longer and we took him to the vet yesterday. Died peacefully in my wife's arms.

My wife is doing ok, I on the other hand am a wreck.

Life goes on.

As hard as it is (I've been through this too many times) it was by far the best thing you could do for him.  He also had an incredibly long life with people who obviously loved him very much and gave him a great home.  He was one of the luckiest ones.  It's cliche but think of him in that context.
