Took Ariel into the Vet. He's been peeing on the side of the box/on the adjacent wall. We put up some plexiglass with newspaper and use a higher sided box to keep it from getting too bad. A couple of weeks ago I noticed he had blood in his urine so I took him in for tests.

Last year he had a Creatine level at 2.3 which for a cat is right on the border to bad depending on the vet. This time it was up to 3.1 which, per the vet is fatal in lots of cats. It depends on other factors of course but his kidneys are at 70% loss or more. The vet expected he'll be getting injected fluids within 6 months and likely won't last out the year based on previous experience with such elevated levels.

Of course we'll be taking care of him as best as we can. With Niki having strokes last year and now Ariel, I suspect neither will be with us much longer. Sad

They're both pretty feisty but the vet says to keep an eye out for more sleeping (it's a cat; 18 hours is _normal_ Smile ) and if they start hiding.

And thanks for the well wishes. Their lives are certainly too short.

I lost 2 to the exact same type of degenerative kidney failure. Watch for when they start acting detached and uninterested in you at all,
staring at a wall, etc. When they stop eating and refuse everything right down to a can of tuna you've got only a few days.
Also watch the back feet. My male cat's back feet swelled up and I knew it was time.
