Is there a GPS that's actually any good?

I had a Nuvi 1450 LMT that I used for 5 years on the bike.  I just bought a Nuvi 55 LM to replace it, for $89.00.  It's pretty easy to pre-plan a route on your home computer and download it to the Nuvi.

I've also used my old GPSmap60C using the track function, which works very well.  It's very 2004, but would work very well in a pinch if I needed it.

I was just thinking my phone lasts 2-3 years and my motorcycle 5-6 years so is crazy to think my GPS should last more than 4 years?

I've got 10 years on my Zumo 550, still no plans to replace it.

I dropped my zumo, indoors, and now the on/off doesn't work.  Ugh!

Bought mine in 2009. All I've done is upgrade to Lifetime Maps, and I had to replace a cracked screen. It still worked, I just couldn't search for any place that had an "O" in it.

It probably has 100,000 bike miles on it.

Bummer! Lucky for you, they are easy to open up to see what the damage is ... maybe a microswitch can be replaced?

I've dropped mine several times too, but it still works. Also had to replace the screen as the digitizer quit five years ago, but didn't seem to be related to the drops.

The screen is small, the battery capacity is getting low, the maps are old (2010?). But it continues to work whenever I need it, it has physical buttons, is one of the only units I can view in full daylight, and I can seem to ever justify the cost of replacing it.

I just bought a TomTom Rider 400, when I get some time spent with it I'll post up my thoughts. I had mt Zumo 550 since 2009 and sold it for $250.

Thanks for the link. I just sent the guy an email inquiring about repairing my zumo 450. Needs a new digitizer (easy peasy) but it doesn't recognize external power when in the cradle and only runs on the battery. Tried my second (assumed to be working) cradle and no joy, so I assume something in the zumo fried. I can charge from the USB port and have used it in Europe just running on the battery a few times so it's still functional.
