At some point, I noticed the ambient sound feature was allowing me to hear myself (always a good thing, of course), hear bumps against the 20S and mount, and that's it. Since I used the function a lot, mostly with gas stations and toll booths, I was puzzled about what went wrong. The answer is simple and somewhat annoying. The mic (or pickup space) is associated with the USB port. Put the rubber cover over the USB, to protect it from unwanted contaminants (dust, rain, whatever), and the ambient sound mic is covered, too. Leave the port uncovered and the outside world is again audible. Maybe Sena has done something to minimize contaminants, but that doing the right thing for the port is wrong for the mic is underwhelming.  Headscratch

Interesting...

Know anything about echoes?  Even after the latest update my headset echoes my voice.  Very annoying. Crazy

That's the sidetone function. You can disable it with the phone app. Or read the manual about how to do it without the app.

IMHO sidetone is very helpful when communicating - every phone, wired or wireless does it. It gives you a hint about what the person you're talking with hears.

Or you referring to hearing yourself when you're using the exterior mic on the 20S? In that case, there's no way to keep you from hearing yourself. I'll recheck if sidetone stops in ambient mode (double click the green button at the bottom of the base). Either way...  Shrug ...ain't no thing for me. I'm happy to have sidetone.

Excellent, you were very vocal on the Sena website my friend.  You might be their biggest PITA customer. Razz

Hopefully this is the sidetone feature you speak of, I'm going down to figure it out now.  Sidetone makes me want to throw this thing down the road!

Your call - it was a long fight to get Sena to add it. Calls without it sound dead and, more importantly, you'll know if you're being covered by wind noise, etc.

Yeah, getting Sena to even give a hint of reasonable customer relations, at least in their forum, is skating uphill in sand...  Rolleyes

Sidetone was indeed switched on.  Haven't tested but it's turned off now, never to be turned on again!!!
