$&@#&)*#ing lawyers!!
«
on:
August 06, 2007, 10:13:20 AM »
Watching the SuperBike races (TiVo rocks!) there was a commercial for 1-800-Motorcycle, the law offices of Kass and Moses. Lawyers that specialize in Motorcycle issues. Fine. Great. Yippee. But at the end of the commercial the guy said "Even if you don't have a motorcycle license or insurance, we can still help you!"
See, that to me is just more of the lack of personal responsibility that's plaguing the modern world.
Hey, it's ok... you don't need a license (and by extension, you don't need to know what the hell you're doing). Go out and ride, get in all the trouble you want... we'll still help you!
How about this...? How about "Sorry, no license, no help. You shouldn't have been riding, dipwad!"
(sigh)

So if you don't have a license and a drunk turns left in front of you you shouldn't be allowed to get a lawyer?
You don't really make a good point from what I can grok.
Or are you blaming lawyers for people having accidents?

If you don't have a license you shouldn't be on the road.
I'm not sure I can empathize with the "victim" in this case.

Not to mention that if you dont have said license as far as i am concerned then you are more than partly at fault cause you should not even be operating the motor vehicle.

There is a TV ad here in the Seattle area for a MC lawyer and it "features" a guy (who is supposedly the lawyer) riding a wheelie on the freeway as he talks about his services. I think he also mentions he represents unlicensed and uninsured riders. At the end he does a stoppie, flips off his unfastened helmet and states he'll ride the insurance company hard for you!
What a tool.

I've never seen this one. But then again I watch very little of the 4 major networks on TV...most of it is Tivo (with commercials skipped) or DVDs.

Its not the lawyer's job to enforce traffic laws. He/she has a commercial enterprise and can represent who ever he or she wants to. If you are upset about someone riding without license or insurance (not required for motos in all states) then take that up with law enforcement or your legislature.

It's funny that you think that they shouldn't be able to get a lawyer if they are not licensed but think about how many bad drivers/riders there are who have licenses.

If Jeff Gordon or Nicky Hayden didn't have a driver's license, should he still be allowed to drive?
I think Mike Goodwin's post (above) reflected my frustration pretty well.

Lawyers do a lot worse stuff than that ad.
Some rider get killed by a drunk driver you guys would be all about hanging the driver, license or no.
The legal "profession" has gone steadily downhill since those shysters started advertising.

This is the way our justice system works. Everyone is entitled to representation, whether guilty or innocent. While I agree people shouldn't be riding without the license or insurance (where required), I would not say that they should be denied legal representation because someone has presupposed that they are guilty.

Jaywalking laws got repealed?
You got my point, though, I'm sure. I never said the guy should escape all blame, just that we don't have the right to just tee off on someone because he "shouldn't be there".

Thank you. As a motorcyclist it's already hard enough getting a lawyer even when you're completely 100% not at fault. Now to have fellow motorcyclists bitching that they don't want lawyers to defend motorcyclists that may have violated a possibly completely unrelated law, well that's just kind of dumb. If you don't want a lawyer, fine, don't get one. But bitching about having available lawyers for you or other motorcyclists, makes no sense.

Of course, of course... everyone is entitled to due process. Ok, my point was pretty simple, I thought....
Joe Shyster gets on tv and is basically saying "Hey, you f'd up and I can get you off, no worries!", not "Hey, everyone makes mistakes. Maybe I can help you." No, the tone of the entire commercial was "no insurance, no license, no problemo, pal!" It sounded more like one of those "no credit? No problem!" bullshit used-car sharks.
That's the really the point. I guess I wasn't clear.
