Met up for a ride near Morton's -- turns out they had their open house.  While chatting, a guy on a bmw wearing a 'stich pulls up and kickstands down with this:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/hovmaven/IMG_00000131.jpg

Yes, it is a bicycle pedal.  I thought, way cool, this guy must ride. . ..   Thumbsup

Then I saw this. . ..  EEK!

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b76/hovmaven/IMG_00000128.jpg

Care to guess the identity of the mystery rider???

He's a top tenner. . ..   Wink

Was his helmet lined with aluminum foil to cut down on satellite signal exposure?

the rider came in 4th. . ..   Cool  need more hints?   Wink

cockpit is featured in this link:  http://www.ridermagazine.com/latest-news/2011-iron-butt-rally-results.htm

we talked for an hour.  absolutely freakin' mesmerizing tales.  in his view, it was a sit here twist that rally.  carried a final drive he could change in 17 minutes.  everything, and i mean everything, was about time management.   Thumbsup

Had to look him up - never met Rodger.

I do know about 1/2 of the top ten from other rallies where they beat me.

The consensus was not such a fun rally.

Did you get the bug?

He actually enjoyed it -- had a bucket list to ride all 48(49) states.  Said this rally was about the ride, not plotting and mapping.  Hence, sit here, twist that.   Bigok

Yep.   Crazy

Roger had one of these velcroed to the side of his helmet and top/side of each pannier -- easily accessible light when he was stuck on the side of the road (just cut the clips) . . ..

Mad props to the rider but damn... there's enough crap in that pic to start a pawn shop (or buy another bike).  Lol

The really neat thing was that he configured them to talk to him in different voices. . ..  Oddly enough, he paid attention to the woman . . . and not the guy and the other from Australia.   Lol

Yep - very cool.

I was assuming it landed at Dulles as that is the future home, but I cannot tell where you were standing to take that pic from the tower location.

Were you on the side of the road on 28?

The building I currently work at in Chantilly made their roof available for viewing.  It was memorable.   Thumbsup
