Jules here - I live about 90 kms from Melbourne, near the start of the Great Ocean Road. I have a 2001 VFR 800 which I mainly use for weekend rides and usually one 7-10 day trip away with mates over summer. The best trip we've done was around Tasmania, that place is just made for bikes and the locals are very motorcycle friendly.

Hi guys. Been snooping around ST-N for a couple of years now. New site looks great. Just had to register. My name is Peter and I'm 52, from Brisbane and have been riding constantly for 35 years. I currently ride a Blackbird which without doubt IMO, the best all round bike I have ever sat on. I do not commute (never have), and ride weekends with as many overnighters I can fit in. My wife Jane is a newbie rider and is currently riding a 2002 SV650S. This is the first bike she has ever ridden and she has gained considerable confidence on it. I've ridden it and love it. Thoroughly recommended for any new rider. Heading off on the 23rd for a 3 dayer staying ay Yamba, then over the Gilbraltar Range via the Gwdir, staying at Tenterfield, then on to Brisbane on the Sunday. Did this run late last year and it poured all day on the Saturday. Promised to go again. Well, enough about me. Hello to all you Aussies.

Thanks Davo appreciate any help. So this trip in April is Gold Coast to Darwin, where else? Does Darwin to Sydney almost qualify me as a farrider? Ha.
Speed limits up here since last January...bad luck.

Long Ride info is here http://www.freewebs.com/longride2007/index.htmBecoming a FarRider info is all on the site and does involve either being a IBA (Iron Butt Association) member or having done a FarRide. I am Sunshine Coast not Gold and its only 3000k from here to Katherine where I meet up with them to ride into Darwin on the 27th.

Hi all, Steve here. I live inland from the Sunshine Coast, about 2 hours. Ride a Yamaha XJ 900S. Mainly use it for tripping about, but i'll use it in preference to the car for zipping about town. I'm a Ulysses member and a Yamaha Tribe member.
Enjoy the ride

G'day all - Steve from Melbourne here and fellow Legend from the Long Ride. Now, that turned out to be one hell of a 10000 km party! I'm on a '04 ST1300 most of the time (don't drive a four wheeler) and other times on either a '75 Bonny or '58 Square4. Last week took a run up to Brissie to catch up with some of the other Long Riders, and round the end of July will do another up to Airlie Beach - will give you a yell before I leave Davo - catch you on the way through if you're around! Have fun and stay upright...Cheers, Steve

Welcome Argentum
Always good to have another Buell rider to chat to. The only Aus site I've joined is ABR. I don't see your name on the list but I guess I will when I look around more.
I like STN, the site works well and has a good feel. Lots off feedback and lots of people.

Hi all! I'm from Murwillumbah in northern NSW Australia. I don't currently own a bike (I don't know if that status is allowed on this forum!?), but I'm not a wannabe sport-tourer. I didn't buy my first car until I was 27, I just had bikes. My first 1000+ km ride was on a 91 model FZR600. Total distance for the day was around 1100km and around the 900km mark my concentration started wander. If you have ever ridden one of these bikes you'll understand why! That was on the way to the 95 Oz GP. Last bike was a 94 model CBR900RR, but was sadly sold to purchase a house .

Got my new Bandit yesterday, the one with ABS... Does it go or what. That one will do me for a while. Anyone else on the forum from FNQ? Hopefully it won't rain too much on the weekend, the Rex Ranges, the Gillies, the Palmerston and the road to Cooktown are waiting for me...

What r you doing here Doug. I heard you were getting a CR. Knew you couldn't keep off the Buells. I planning on heading up your way when I get my licence back. Will you be home round the end of June early July? Its a good site here. Generates plenty of traffic, and not everyone's grumpy.

G'day All, Peter here, from Tasmania. I've recently purchased a 2004 Triumph Sprint ST... and love it. So does my wife and we plan to get out and explore this great country of ours on two wheels after having already travelled thousands of kilometers in 4WDs. I stumbled across this site a while back and was immediately impressed by the quality and breadth of discussion. Guess I'll be lurking and reading initially, but will hopefully have something to contribute as I go along. Cheers

G'day! Spotted mention of this site on vfrd.com so thought I'd check it out. (apologies, this is almost a verbatim copy of my "new members"-post)
Tee and I often tag on to or even organise rides, so this seems a good forum to expand the network.
Are there many more South-East Queenslanders on here?
Here is a pick of 2 of my fav girls:

Thats cool too. though not too keen on droning down straight boring highways, always up for a big adventure . Time is always the biggest abstacle. Having said that, Tee and I are thinking of taking the bike down to Tassie in January, when we have to be there for a wedding anyway ...

Neither am I, a common misconception. Sometimes you got to ride the straight bits to get to the twisty bits. I have ridden just about every twisty bit in Australia. Yeah that entails riding some straight bits.

Yeah, same. For the Tassie traip we're considering driving down in the tin-top, trailering the bike along until Melbourne. Or even freight it down by train and fly to Melbourne (know some people in the train business).

Ya know I gotta ask, why are you not riding it all the way? It is after all a VFR and they make good mile crunchers. Lots os twisty ways to get to the ferry.

Sure, if it was just me I would, I love to ride all day, for days on end, but I'm gonna blame this one on the girl. The objective is Tassy, and I dont want her to be over it all by the time we get there. Plus, she's been wanting to bring some stuff back from the parents place.... ah... Hang on!... it just dawned on me that that might be the real motive for the trailer thing.... Hmmmm! haha

I'm a fat, cantankerous, ugly, bad mannered git who runs a small Moto Guzzi workshop in Southern NSW about 40Km from Canberra. While my business is almost exclusively Guzzi, with a bit of 'Prila thrown in, if anyone gets stuck in my neck of the woods I'll always try to help out.

Hey all,
Rob from Melbourne, live in central Melbourne, ride a 2005 Bird. Lots of day trips, have a place in Lorne at the start of the GOR so spend a bit of time down there. Also try to get away for 3-4 days a couple of times a year for some peace, quiet, and corners!!

Correct - very very sad. He was riding without his helmet int he last leg ( last few hours actually) of the 2009 IBR last summer and hit a deer somewhere outside of Spokane WA. As far as I know no one really knows what happened - at least i never heard definative information except his helmet was not on. It was a crushing blow to the Rally and all LD riders. RIP.

Hey guys - I am half Digger half Yank. My mother was from the Bondi/Randwick area of Sydney. Uncle was in the AIF during WWII and Grandfather fought at Gallipoli.
I love Australia and hope to get back there one day. Want to see the Red Center, Queensland, Darwin, take the train across the Nullarbor plain and look up whatever family I can find.

G'Day all - Robert from Brisbane here Have spent 15 years riding, mainly in SE Qld and NSW - then made the serious mistake of shipping our bike to Europe about 5 years ago - and spent 6 months riding there with my wife. Supposed to be the "Once in a lifetime" big trip. We have now spent the past five years working like dogs and are currently planning to go back (for the third time) next year... I pass this on to warn all the younger ones of the dangers of addiction Cheers!

Hi Pete - I know my bank manager would like me to get rid of this addiction! Seriously, the amount of fantastic roads, great food and wine, brilliant scenery, lovely people, amazing history and sheer motorcycle friendliness of Europe is hard to beat. Where are you heading? Are you shipping with Dave Milligan from Get Routed? Cheers PS - Don't forget to "keep right!"

I used a broker here in perth to ship the bike over and have green card insurance through mototouring in italy.i pick my bike up in the uk then im thinking i will head down through france spain and portugal chasing the sun then head back up towards the alps and probably work my way around to croatia.no hard and fast plans.ive sent my camping gear over with my bike so will have a mixture of camping ,b&b's and hotels.I have a copy of John hermanns book "motorcycling through the alps and corsica"so will use that as a bit of a guide once im in the alps.

Been a member of S-TN since last October and only just noticed this thread. Cantankerous old fart in Perth; ride a BMW R1150RT. Leaving in a week to ride east -- Adelaide, GOR, Snowies, back again. About 8500 km over 3 weeks and a coupla days, with Dearly Beloved (otherwise known as the Leader of the Opposition) on the back. Should be fun.

Just registered. Ben, Sydney - Northern Beaches. Riding a GSXR600. The long days and luggage carrying are getting the better of me so the gixer is for sale and I'm thinking about an ST 1050. Looks like you guys are in the know for this kind of riding!!

G'day mate ... yep, GSXR600 and a long = my back aches just thinking about. ST1050 has had some damn good write-ups ... they say the engine is unbelievable. My only "concern" for touring is that I prefer shaft drive, so I don't have to mess about with chains on the road. But that's just me.

FarRiders' aims are to encourage safe long distance riding within Australia along the guidelines of the Iron Butt Association who have been in the forefront of Long Distance Riding for many years, known within the sport as LDRiding. So nice !
