In Seattle I'd wager commuting on a bicycle is the most dangerous.

the above opinion is simply that of an average middle aged hick with one too many brain injuries... or, don't take it too serious.

I almost never commute to work.   I only work about 1.5 miles away, so its not even worth getting my hair messed up for.  Smile

I used to, but now the bikes are only on the road when everyone else is off it.  Its just too risky on the road at that time.

I'll bet dollars to donuts the data would equally support replacing the word "commute" with "travel on public roads".

It's dangerous riding folks.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

/care.

I'll ride, thanks.

Not that it's going to change my behavior, but I thought it was interesting that there was at least an attempt to quantify the risk.

The statistics clearly say riding the bus is the safest.  So, that's it.  I'm selling the bike and riding the bus from now on.  Still gonna wear my armor, though.

I'll bet the grin on my face is 58 times wider than anyone on the bus - except maybe the flasher in that trench coat.

I think not going to work at all is the safest way to go.  I'm calling my boss right now.

I commute a couple times a week all the way across town.  I get the message every couple months that I need to leave myself an out at every opportunity.  There will always be those moments when there is no out, but our job is to minimize those moments.  The biggest pickle I see other cyclists putting themselves in is following too closely (less than 2 seconds).

Y'all be careful out there....

LOL... I know what you are talking about. I used to ride my bike to work, it was scary as hell!!!

It helps me wake up, and people are so amazed that a bicyclist would pass on the right, give them the one finger salute, and threaten them with the waterbottle when needed that they give me enough space.  Bigsmile

I find passing buses extra enjoyable.  The buses are more likely to run you over than any car, bastards.  That's why I don't take the bus, can't support the way they are driven.

The safest thing to do is to wrap yourself in bubble wrap and get a loved one to stuff you in the closet.

Nope.  My Doberman Pinscher loved bubble wrap - she'd carefully puncture each individual cell with her DoberFangs (tm).  You wouldn't want to be inside that.   EEK!

CDC hmmm... This doesn't effect me. Bike just got a clean bill of health. So no disease is going to cause it to crash. Unless it gets a cold riding in the winter Bigsmile

I think this would be a smidgen more viable if the D.O.T. did the study. Way to general. And yes if you stand in front of someone swinging a baseball bat you're going to get hurt a lot easier then if you're behind the fence. Headscratch
