Occasionally a ride report over on ADVRider will blow me away. If you haven't caught this latest one by "metaljockey," then read it. It's one of the most epic ride reports ever (no exaggeration). 5 guys across the Angola desert. Un-frickin-believable.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269251

BTW, the report is still going up in installments. Just wade through all the peanut gallery comments and read each of metaljockey's posts.

This kind of thing really makes ALL our lives pale by comparison. (Yeah, I'm speaking for everyone!  Twofinger)

OMG! EEK!  You know when a ride report start with stuff like, "Life insurance, updated will and landmines" it is gonna be something; but this thing is just incredible!  I just finshed and am astounded!  BIGGEST. BALLS. EVAR.

But if you stop, you are fucked. So you keep riding, racing, shouting obscenities at fate, knowing you're gonna get the short end of the stick.

It's probably the best ride report i have read...I've been following it since it started.

Not to thrilled about you slumming the report with the St.Ner's, though.

Easily one of the best trips I've read.  And man, that cliff-hanger over the weekend!

"Nobody else arrives. My God, how did we fuck this up so badly?"

This report is amazing.  EEK!

Right now I'm reading where they are riding along the dune and the ocean...

Quote
No motor should be abused like this. It goes on for a good hundred metres. And there's nothing you can do. I'm on the pegs, murdering the bike and moving at just above walking pace. If I tap off for just a second I'll be stuck, with no way to get going again. And if I get stuck I get fucked. It turns into a refrain in my head that I can't control: "If you get stuck here, you get fucked here".

Absolutely incredible!!  Just when I think I've been somewhere and done something, I read ride reports like this one.

The massive weight of the fuel and water makes your bike a stranger. I was riding a pogo stick front connected to a drunk hippopotamus at the rear.

I don't know if this has been posted before but you have to read this trip these guys rode in Angola.  Once you start reading you don't want to stop and it will leave you hungry for more.  Check it out!

Awesome. I read the whole thing and will have to burn a little midnight oil to catch up with work.

Well worth it, though...

For those of you that are tempted to read this report....they did not post a warning so a a public service I will here.

"DO NOT START TO READ THIS REPORT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SEVERAL HOURS OF YOU LIFE TO SPEND READING ONE OF THE BEST ADVENTURE STORIES EVER"

I have such great respect for that group and what they accomplished. The photography is super, the writing even better.

For those of us that started when Metal Jockey 1st started posting....we had  to go through the cliff hanging suspense of waiting for his next post on Monday...

My favorite was,

"I hate cities. To me they are just large containers for the desperate. Out in the rural areas one can be poor, but still live with integrity and self respect. I normally avoid cities like the plague when on a bike trip. Today I need what it offers though and so we descend."

Just like he said in the last installment, "...we haven't had enough yet. Premature."

Fantastic.
