By my rough calculations he would most likely have saved $750-$1000 just by riding to work everyday. I think a track day is most definitely in order.
Good job breadman! (doh!)

The end of this week will mark 6 months of consecutive days of motorcycle commuting. I am proud of this streak. I've saved enough gas money to justify a track day in 2008. That's what I plan to tell my wife, anyway.
hehe. After your first trackday you'll be telling your wife why you NEED a dedicated track bike. You'll Need many, many tires, tire warmers, a truck, a trailer, wheel chocks, pit bull stands, $400 rearsets, and another spare bike to use for parts for your track bike.
Maybe if you plan to tell your wife that you'll stop eating bacon for a year to save money she'll let you get all that stuff.
Good luck.

I rode the 35 miles to work at 6:00 this morning, then turned around and rode 120 miles out to a job-site I am working at and back, Another 35 miles tonight onthe way home. The lowest temp the bike read was 23 degrees.

Mine read 23 degrees as well this morning. I need a bigger speedo to wear 'cause it's getting pretty cold now. I shudder to think if I had shaved my legs and back in an effort to be more aerodynamic how cold I would have been!

Rode to work today in 71 deg weather. Global warming?
I'm expecting to ride home at 10pm to about mid to high 50's. Still plenty doable. But all this talk of riding at much colder temps does have me looking at investing in a heated jacket liner...finally

Just in time for me to be healthy enough to ride again. Awesome.
I should just say the hell with it and give it over to a mechanic now.
