Riding home for the holidays
«

The wife and I are taking off the week between Christmas and New Years, and travelling to St. Louis for the interim.
I'm still considering riding down for the week, leaving tomorrow morning. Jadzia is leaning towards driving. Obviously, the weather is much nicer in St. Louis, although not tropical. I also think that riding down would be a nice touch on the vacation, since we could hit Missouri wine country, find a couple of B&B's, Illinois River Road, and generally places I like to see but hate to drive to.
Just as obviously, having two motorcycles as your only source of transportation for a week in winter could turn out rather badly, although the weather has cooperated so far this month.
What do ya'll think?

I managed to ride from Wisconsin to Daytona in March for Bike Week any number of times. Then one year came 'The Storm of the Century", and I was stuck sleeping in the lobby of a hotel in Alabama for 4 days. My boss was
very
unpleased when I did not return as scheduled.
Hey, it's a crapshoot. You could check out the NOAA long-range forecasts. Hope you have a nice trip, however you travel.

Alright, let's go tomorrow. I guess this means we're packing lighter. Or should I go down to the shop and pick up some saddlebags for the Burgman?

Why don't you ride and she drive?
It's a compromise with lots of good points.
Pack all the warm gear you could possibly need.
A warm, dry place to wait out any really bad weather.

Well, we're down in St. Louis right now, both riding.
We're stopping at a B&B in Cape G tomorrow, making it a two day trip. Weather back from her sister's was pretty cold tonight, but nothing unreasonable. Would post pics, but didn't get a camera for Christmas.
So far so good! I needed this...

Well, we're down in St. Louis right now, both riding.
Cool. We did something similar. We headed (from Chicago 'burbs) to Arkansas between Christmas and New Years. Return trip weather was iffy and wife didn't want to ride that far under those conditions so she packed her gear and drove. She rode pillion while we were down there.
And we had a blast. Our first two travel mornings were chilly but dry. The two days we were down there turned out to be dry and we even got some sun (instead of the rain that was predicted.) Coming home, we had some rain, but my gear kept me dry and the temps never went below 50! (Cindy's gear - an '02 vivid yellow Miata kept her dry too.
)
I hope you had as much fun on your trip. Weather that could have turned iffy actually wound up being pretty good!
