There is a major effort going on to petition Yamaha U.S. to bring this bike state side, as seen on Advrider. This has been posted on Thumper Talk as well so all major forums can take notice. Nay sayers, ("yeah right.... never happen") don't waste your time, just get out of the way please.... Wink

Kawasaki finally brought the Versys to the states so there is hope. They even finally brought one of their ABS equipped bikes to the states (Concours 14 w/abs option). The sales success of the Suzuki V-Strom here in the states may also help get this one over here for 2009. I still dont understand if they are already making the bike how it could be such a big deal to make a extra couple of hundred and ship them to the states along with a load of FJR's or something.

I went to the advrider link posted above and this is one nice Yamaha and would take away some KLR sales from Kawasaki for sure. The pictures on the link show dual exhausts ? Is one fake ? Its a thumper so I dont get it, theres a simple explanation I'm sure.

Its another damn 5 speed like the KLR. I dont get that either. The 6 speed is one of the big pluses as far as I'm concerned with the little XT 225, sure helps on the highway. Sometimes even with a dual purpose you need to get on the "big road" and haul ass. I also dont get the low front fender (just like the KTM Adventure) this just totally sucks in mud, though some aftermarket maker will come up with a raised one to take our money when Yamaha could have put one on it to begin with. Other than the 5 speed and low front fender (small gripes) it looks perfect to me.

Did anyone notice the tach in one of the pics is past red line and almost pegged out ? Its only the needle sweep that occurs when you turn the key on and they have snapped the photo with the needle way into the red, still it makes for a great pic and the photographer was thinking ahead on that one or he/she has a sense of humor. The speedometer shows 180 (probably km) as well  Lol

Ténéré
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ténéré is a desert region in the south central Sahara. It comprises a vast plain of sand stretching from northeastern Niger into western Chad, occupying an area of over 154,440 square miles (400,000 km²). Its boundaries are conventionally said to be the Aïr Mountains in the west, the Ahaggar Mountains in the north, the Djado Plateau in the northeast, the Tibesti Mountains in the east and the basin of Lake Chad in the south. The central part of the desert, the Erg du Ténéré, is located at approximately 17°35′N, 10°55′E. The Ténéré was featured in a Discovery Travel & Living documentary ("Journeys to the End of the Earth: The Land of Fear").

The name Ténéré comes from the Tuareg language meaning literally "desert", in much the same way that the Arabic word for "desert", sahara, came to be applied to the region as a whole.
