I may sneak up for an overnighter, but working construction retail (think orange), that's our kickoff weekend into summer. I'll be watching this thread for more info on the meetup locations. Camping is me, so no big deal on last minute reservations.
Cyclemoore in Interlochen is cheap, clean and very close to TC.

Camping means different things to different people, although it's not like you guys are going to to have RVs with you.
I know a bunch of wild places along crystal clear streams in these parts that you can camp for no charge (just a camp permit, which I can get for the site). We don't have the paved roads you might be used to though, so getting to any of these places is going to require riding down some dirt/sand roads (some of which may feel a bit "sketchy" for sport bikes). Usually there isn't mud associated with these roads, but corrugations (natural rumble strips if you will) are quite common.
As far as places with showers and civil crap like that, they're available too, but you can find 'em just as easily as I can.
Yea, we can find them but which ones to you recommend? Camping is different for everyone but on a bike and at the end of May up there its really not that different.

I'll be heading up there this week, maybe tomorrow to recon some places. I'll post back as soon as I'm done on two good lodging places - a campsite with amenities and a motel/hotel that works well.

I will be heading up this Friday with my wife to look around in TC for sites (both lodging and camping). She suggested the state park, which is in fact a great location since it is right on the strip and bay. When I get there on Friday, I'll look around some more and see if there is any camp spot that is better (I doubt it actually). I will also look for lodging that is closer to one of the microbreweries downtown. I don't think there are any lodging places that I would suggest for motorcyclists (who like to keep an eye on their bikes) near the best enviros in TC, but I will see what I can find. We may have to compromise a bit simply due to the layout of the establishments in town.

Good call sleazy! However, I'd prefer to have lodgers/campers a bit closer, so we can all get together for social hours pre and post-rides with very limited distance between the social hour location and the lodging/camping place.

I just checked online with MI dnr and they are showing plenty of available campsites for that weekend as of now.

Yeah, I suspected as such. There is some demand for vacationing "up North" during MDW, but it's not like we're planning a trip to the World cup or even to Mardi Gras. 4 months ahead should give ample time for planning this. Crap, March would be soon enough.

I'm in for Saturday for sure, got the wife's permission and everything! And since I live in TC I won't need any lodging. If you need any pre-weekend legwork done here let me know as I'm, well, here!

I plan on camping and will make my reservation soon. I'll get a site for 2 tents/people so if someone wants to share the site PM me.
I'll post the details later.

My trip to north Georgia has been postponed till mid June so it looks like I can make this trip after all.
I'll be staying at my brother's house in Traverse City.

FRZY,
Are you planning on riding around the lake or taking one of the ferrys across?

What about a camping location? I know a lot of us are "soft bed" types, but some of us are also "dirty cheap" type. :P
I'd be happy to scope stuff out if no one has any other suggestions and we have other interested campers.

Leelanau State Park (georgous ,rustic , on lake michigan) is about 45minutes north of TC with some twisty on the way down. 1TRAK

Go ahead and put me in as a tentative for the entire weekend. I'm requesting the days off when I go in today.
I'll be staying down at Cycle-Moore tho. They're much more biker friendly, IMHO, not to mention a quarter of the price to camp! I've stayed there several times before and they keep a firm grip on the rowdies. It's ~10 minutes to ride up to town from there.

They only allow motorcyclists in the campground; no RVs or huge trailer rigs. Cost is $5.00 per person per day and the camping area is huge! Restrooms and showers are clean, water is hot and the owners are really friendly. Their horseshoe pits are hilarious - they use swingarms as shoes. BBQs are available for community use. Firewood is available onsite for a fee. Only a few sites have electricity tho. If you're equipped for rustic camping, this is the place. It's mainly HD oriented, but they do not discriminate on what you ride whatsoever. I've been there with my Wing, the Triumph and the Yamaha.
