I plan on being there!  If only to meet the other MI riders now that I'm transplanted from the Chicago part of Region 4.

Hey forester, you can count me in! Maybe I can talk some of my Sprint ST buddies in tagging along too!

Cheers,

Hey Ben, the date is set. MDW. What did that muddy road make your mind muddy  Lol

But I agree, a hotel/motel would be good. With it being a holiday weekend things tend to book up quick.

Are you going to post the roads you plan on riding or are they a secret? I have a graduation I have to do that weekend and can't make it, so I am doing a 'four-finger' tour of Mi on the 7th to the 10th instead, and I would like to include some good roads.

So everyone knows, roads will not be posted here.  They will remain a secret until you show up at the TBA lodging destination. If you could look on a map of this area of michigan and pick the twistiest most technical routes, they'll likely be on this - only some of the routes I will be choosing will be hard for you to find on a typical map.  Wink

Any word on the lodging destination?  I think that should be determined pretty quick. Its hard enough to get a room in TC on a normal weekend let alone trying to book a block of rooms for the holiday weekend.

What about a camping location?  I know a lot of us are "soft bed" types, but some of us are also "dirty cheap" type. :P

I'd be happy to scope stuff out if no one has any other suggestions and we have other interested campers.

camping  Thumbsup

Camping means different things to different people, although it's not like you guys are going to to have RVs with you.  Lol I know a bunch of wild places along crystal clear streams in these parts that you can camp for no charge (just a camp permit, which I can get for the site).  We don't have the paved roads you might be used to though, so getting to any of these places is going to require riding down some dirt/sand roads (some of which may feel a bit "sketchy" for sport bikes).  Usually there isn't mud associated with these roads, but corrugations (natural rumble strips if you will) are quite common.

As far as places with showers and civil crap like that, they're available too, but you can find 'em just as easily as I can.

Anybody is also welcome to camp on our land, which is about an hour (S) from TC.  Most of the cool camp places are close to my place too, but a state forester who is a friend of mine and happens to work in the TC field office can get some info on similar camp spots if you guys are interested in setting up camp a bit closer.  Bonfires, Beer and smores are definitely doable and could even be a place to meet up for riders that aren't camping.  Let's leave this part open for dicussion.

Perhaps this weekend or next week I will have more information about getting a place for you all to call so a block of rooms can be reserved for MDW.  I don't believe it is necessary to book such rooms 4 months or more in advance, but then again - I don't have a tendency to book a hotel for such a weekend.  I have a personal friend whose family owns a motel in TC, but it is not the right one for this event.  I'm looking for something that fits right and I'll have to run up there and check it out to do it.

There is no sense in getting something less than ideal.  You need a place to get your bikes mostly out of sight and it needs to be fairly comfortable, clean, reasonably priced and in close vicinity to the downtown microbreweries and the bay area.  I'll find a good place that's available when I get up there and report back.

This particular M.A.C.K. will be in Californ-eye-A then. Otherwise I'd be all over this.  Thumbsup

Re: Hotel/Lodging

I'll be bunking at my Dad's place in Lake City so no hotel/motel accommodations will be required for me.

I'm 90% in as of now. Was planning on going to estn but not sure what the mountain weather will be like early in the season like that. Will probably hit this meet and go down to the mountains later in the summer.
Not sure of any motels with direct room access close to town. I do remember seeing some nice mom and pop places up M-22 on the west bay that may do. When ever I have stayed in TC I usually have stayed at the Grand Beach resort on the east bay.
