They only allow motorcyclists in the campground; no RVs or huge trailer rigs. Cost is $5.00 per person per day and the camping area is huge!
now that sounds good

It sounds good but it is 17 miles away from the hotel everyone else is staying.

That does sound good. The only reason I chose the lodging places where I did is I thought it would be cool to keep everyone together. Cycle-moore sounds like a hard place to pass up for those who could care less about a bed.
I'm planning on working a ride with a particular starting point at a resturant for breakfast/coffe break as a sort of eat-n-greet hour before the ride each day, but it doesn't really matter where anyone stays.
I will more than likely be planning a ride through or around Interlochen (and certainly through the Leelanau peninsula - as 1TRAK mentioned). I was just Southwest of there last week and there were some good views/curves in some locations. Certain portions of the ride are already planned out, but I've got some scouting to do prior to distributing the entire routes.
I suspect the routes will be in the vicinity of 400-500 miles per day. I hope you come here to
ride

I am not sure whether I am going to commute from home (about an hour) or stay with/close to others. It depends on how much post-ride night-time activities everyone else is up for.
Just keep in mind that if staying in Interlochen, T.C. nightlife is 17 miles away via fairly rural roads which are traversed with deer and other critters from time to time. There will be post-ride activities scheduled for the weekend in T.C., so night time commutes are a possibility.
FYI, it stays light up here until damned near 10 p.m. that time of year!

What, are you going into the U.P. ? I cant think of any routes up there that would be that long.

at least go to Mackinaw city. nice little town and you can get good pictures of the bridge.
after crossing the bridge take US2 west along the lake. so close to the water that sand blows across the road.

Seriously, the road around Leelenau is superb riding. A quick trip around Torch Lake and the surrounding roads is sweet too.
I don't want to hijack your plans! CM's just such a fun place, I had to mention it. The ride to TC really doesn't feel 17 miles long.

I really like the idea of a motorcycle only campgrounds
and if it's just a short 17 miles to TC thats no big deal.

I like MC only campgrounds also but we better decide fast. If we don't go to the MC only campground, I same sure the state park and hotel will fill up fast on MDW.

No problem - I thought it was a great suggestion! You know, depending on which way you take, it may not be that far, but it's somewhere in that vicinity. I figured we could meet for breakfast at Bob Evans which is across the Bay and down the street from the recommended hotel at 8:30 a/m and take off at 10:00 a/m toward the two different routes each day.
Trust me guys, there is easily 800-1,000 miles of roads up here that offer lots and lots of twisties fantastic views, scenic vistas and unusual "off the beaten track places" that you may never get to see otherwise. There may be a few "commutes" that don't offer much of those things between certain "special places", but the reward is worthy of the treasure trail!

MMMMMMMMM the land of REALLY REALLY good pasties!! Lhetoo's(sp?), going west, when US2 becomes a two lane, on the left.
As for miles of good roads up there, I don't know about milage but you can easily ride all day. Maybe over to the "sunrise side".

You haven't tasted good pasties until you've been to a region in the UK where they originated from. I heard there is a place just north of Houghton that makes good ones.

My mom learned how to make them from an English woman who rented an upper flat from them in Detroit. My moms are the best, Lheto's second(that I've had anyway).

When I finally left 'Nam as one of Uncle Sams Misguided Children, I went to college up in Marquette at NMU. I had always heard that Pasties had been related to the Finish people who inhabit the area. I did not know that Pasties came from the Cornwall area in England.
We would be close enough to cross the bridge and get some, but I never like to eat too heavy when I am riding all day. Simple, small and light foods are what I eat on the motorcycle roads.

My family came from the region that I am talking about. My mom still makes them. Most of the pasties up north are from the Finnish variety and they grind the filling before putting it in the pastry. Cornish pasties are not ground up and are much better. Some of the Finns immigrated to England before the immigrating to the US for copper mining and took with them a modified version of it.

My moms are cubed(round?)steak, onion, potato and rutabega, without which, IMO, its not a pastie.
Nunna them goddamn carrots either!
And gravy is for mashed potatos.
