Seeing how 07 is winding down I thought its time to start planning next years meet.
So here's what I've been thinking about.

We could do like the National and move it year to year.  Seeing how last year we had one in WI and one in MI, should we move it this year ?

Also, do we want to move the date? What do you think? Am I nuts  Nuts

Just thinking out loud. Maybe it's time to shake up things. Lets talk about it with "No poll's" and see what we think.

What about Indiana?  Aren't there some good roads in the south-western parts of the state?

What date was it last year?

WI has always been Labor Day weekend, and last year MI had it's first on Memorial Day weekend.

How about in the UP of Michigan, somewhere near Watersmeet over Labor Day weekend?  Plenty of good roads, lots to enjoy and we even have some board members up there.  I might even volunteer to help set this up.

If the date is going to change, the sooner the better.  I already have vacation scheduled for LDW.

I'm happy with the SW Wisconsin location, but I don't get to ride those roads as often as most of the R4 Meet attendees so I can understand if some folks want a change.

Speaking only for myself, I'm good with the traditional date and location.

Hmmm did SE Ohio over the LDW...the roads are twistie yes....but there is no rhyme nor reason to them, most are just old wagon trails that are paved over, I found doing 80, on roads marked 40, frightfully fast...I really like the roads in WV. I also vote for a non holiday weekend...less LEO patrols.

I'd vote for MO, especially south by Cape G.  Dunno if I could make the dates until my schedule for next year comes in.

I like the idea that it's NOT a holiday weekend. As to where to hold it, Southern Ohio and Southern Missouri are about the same distance from S. Wisconsin/N. Illinois, so for us Badgers and Illini either would be fine. Both places offer good riding. As nice, (but not very twisty), as the U.P. is, I think it's location would rule out many region 4 folks from far away places, with limited time.
Personally I'd have fun going back to the Fort Leonard Wood, MO area, and the Silver Star night club, and a few joints that were off limits to us soldiers, back in the day.  Bigsmile
Oh yeah the riding is pretty good down that way too.

I rode South West Indiana last year and have to say I was surprised with the amount of twisties. As it well, it was very scenic along with covered bridges.   You can set up camp in Columbus Indiana and head about 45 minutes west from there to Story Indiana for the send off.

I would vote for a non-Holiday weekend if anything.

A question for those that don't like it on a holiday weekend.  Is it because you have family or other commitments on Labor Day Weekend or is it because you're concerned about a larger than normal police presence?

If it's the police that has you concerned, I've been to every R4 Meet since they began and it's never been an issue that I'm aware of.  Behave on the major highways and once you get on the letter roads you can have all the fun you want.  I've never gotten stopped and I don't recall anyone ever getting a ticket during a ride related to the meet.

If it moves to a normal 2 day weekend it requires people to take at least one vacation day to make it.  Probably not an issue for most folks but I can only take my vacation a week at a time.  I do have the option of signing up for the weekend off (normally I'm on call) and if it's a three day holiday weekend it includes the holiday.

Whatever everyone decides is fine, I just hope the date discussion doesn't go on too long.

If you want to move it to a non-holiday weekend, could the event be moved up a couple of weeks?  I have late August, early September conflicts.

For me, Labor Day weekend is usually a double or triple-header at work.  I have less chance of being able to make it out.

Just a reminder that the Moto GP will be in Indianapolis Sept. 12-14, 2008.

I can see where it is more convenient to hold an event on Holiday weekend.  It is hard for me to make those due to having a young family. If I do go, I owe my wife a trip with the girls.  It is not a bad trade off but her trips cost 4 times the amount of mine. Anyone see the prices of an all day spa?  I rest my case.
