Overflow fuel leak on my TTR?

Here's the deal.  I have a Yammir TTr125 that is about 1 month old.  On the second ride I noticed, after running it for about 1/2 an hour (and not putting more gas into it) that the clear fuel overflow line from the bottom of the carb was draining fuel, whether the motor was running or not.  The only way it stopped was if I turned the fuel tap to "off".
I checked the big owner's manual and all it said was "overflow" tube, with no other help.  Wassa goin on here?

You have a piece of debris keeping the float from closing the needle valve all the way in the carb.


The needle valve is the little pointy thing hanging from the end of the float. When gas enters the carb, the floats "float" on top of it (hence the name).  As the floats raise, they push that little needle valve down in the hole that the gas is coming into the carb from and close it. It is very common to get a piece of debris from the gas tank in there.

I found a good picture of it. You may have a piece of sand or debris in inlet (blue) hole. The needle (red) can't close the inlet off . There's usually a brass tube (which I don't see in this picture) that sticks up a bit higher than the float. When gas gets that high, it drains out of the tube and out the overflow onto the ground.

Check the petcock and make sure it is not on prime.

My DRZ has a vacuum operated petcock(fuel shut off valve)  It has an On, Reserve and Prime.

The TTR only has Off, On, Reserve.
After I left my brother rode it some more and said it stopped leaking, so maybe the debris passed through..

Floats were stuck. Sometimes all it takes is a solid tap on the side of the carb to return things to normal. If it happens again, I'd open the carb and see what's going on. As R.Markus said, you might have some something kicking around inside.
