A couple friends and I are coming in from NY as we have in previous years.  We usually come out on Sat and go home on Sun always opting to miss the Burger for the longer ride home on the back roads.  The other thing we miss is the local ride on Sun morning.  But NOT this year.  This year we are coming out on Friday and plan to ride a nice 300 mile loop around Clearfield on Sat.  So if there is anyone around and they want to hook up with us, you're more than welcome.  And/or if you have any suggestions to enhance our route it would be much appreciated.

Hi.  I'm new to the board.  I've been to Denny's many times over the years.  Just curious.  Is this an organized ride too, or are we just coming in from wherever to eat?  Do you need a commitment or "reservation" or should we just show up?  I'm interested in joining you this year.  I saw the photo from last year's event and the announcement for this year's event on Denny's website.  I'm riding from Annapolis, MD but might make a long weekend out of it, (including taking Monday off), if the weather looks good.

Thanks.

It's a just show up and have lunch and meet people thing. No reservations required. There are certainly somewhat organized rides being formed from different areas to get to Dennys. Perhaps you can hook up with the NoVA guys.

Hey BB,

There are folks planning the event with Denny's as far as the overall group meet for lunch Sunday afternoon.  But everything else is pretty much come as you are and make your own plans.  There is a group ride planned for Sunday morning but other than that many folks are planning their own thing with some coming in on Friday or Saturday and those coming in for just the day on Sunday.  Those folks coming for an overnighter might be meeting up at the bar at the Days Inn on Saturday night.  Hope to see you there.

BamBam,  It's not really an organized ride but I suppose some of us may ride Saturday and end up staying at the same hotel as Friday night. IMO I would reserve a room for  yourself(peace of mind)

I'm working on a day route from SEPA to Clearfield.  I have come up with three possible routes, and I'd appreciate any feedback from locals as to which routes would be best.  As it is, I am planning on taking 283 to Harrisburg to economize time East of the Susquehanna, and concentrating on the roads West of the River.  I'm interested in what is the most entertaining way, and which portions would not be that good.

Option 1 includes heading toward Carlisle, getting on Rt 74 up past Port Royal, which I know is a good stretch of road over some ridges.  Just before Port Royal, this route would take 333 which parallels 322, but is written about as a good sportbike road that follows the railroad.  Then there is a short stretch on 322, to 655, and on to 355 through Greenwood Furnace Park.  After that, to pick up on Route 26 which runs below State College and has also been mentioned in some of my reading.  Then jogging over through Tyrone, and catching 453 North toward Clearfield.  453 looks interesting on the map as it follows the creek, but I'd like some feedback if it is worthwhile to jog over to it versus saving time on a more direct route.  2023 takes the rest of the way to Clearfield.

Option 2 is a bit longer and takes a more Northern route.  Cross the River at 322/22, take a short jog on 849 (worthwhile?), then continuing on 322 to 333, which leads to 235.  I recall 235 being an interesting ride, and that would take me all the way to 45.  45 then hooks up to 445 through Madisonburg, and I have read that this is a good stretch over the mountain.  64 to Lock Haven, then 120 along the river to Renovo, and down either 144 to 879 and into Clearfield.  Option 2 is nearly 250-miles, and seems to me a little ambitious but potentially pretty rewarding.  Of course, cutting out the run to Renovo would shorten it up considerably if time is needed.

Option 3 is taking 74 above Carlisle, then running between ridges on 274.  I'm not familiar with 274 and if it's a good road, but it leads to 522/944, which I know are pretty good.  944 over Raystown Lake,  26 South to 164.  Past Altoona on the interstate, then 865 up to 453 and following 2023 into Clearfield.

Thanks for any feedback.

Rincewind, good routes all. I'd pick Option 1 or 2 for the ride in, then the other for the ride back.
Hope your schedule allows, 250 miles in these parts is about 5 hours.
Me? I'll take option 3 as it ( 865 ) practically goes by my front door.
See you there.

Thanks for the feedback, SLK50.  See you there.  I am planning on leaving the Ephrata area here at 7am to allow 5-hours.  Scraperman1 has decided to ride seperately, as 7am is too early for his party of 4-5 riders.  Anyone wanting to leave with me, we can meet at:

Turkey Hill Minit Market‎
4 Hahnstown Rd, Ephrata, PA

Stands-up at 7am.  Please let me know, thanks.

Is that the Turkey Hill that you can see from 222 as you approach the Ephrata exit?
