And I really regret not trading my EX500 for one of these when a dealer offered me a straight-up swap on a leftover...that engine can still be the foundation for an amazing project bike.

While it never took the biking world by storm, I fondly remember my first new bike.  The two-stroke induction honk when you shifted down and flew past a line of cars was intoxicating.  Cornering...was adequate.  1074 Suzuki GT550:

not just V-twins, but parallel twins are pretty sweet to.

again, they don't have the horsepower or reliability of bigger machines, but what they do have, seems to make up for any deficit.
on a twisty road, any horsepower advantage is diminished and other things come to the forefront...such as a lusty soundtrack   along with a respectable amount of torque.  

True. Before I bought my T3 I had a Laverda 1974 750 SF2 which started a love affair with Italian motorcycles which goes on to this day. Rock solid engineering, handling which was a revelation after the Japanese bikes I had been riding previously, surprisingly smooth for a big parallel twin, and looks to die for. One of the best looking bikes built anywhere in the '70s IMHO.

Or just get a late model Concours. The bike where time stood still.

I still miss this bike - 1983 GS1100ES.  Remember first ride home from the dealer, 25F, freezing cold 50 mile ride - could not stop laughing in my helmet at the massive torque.

I bought a new KZ900 in 1976 so I'm pretty partial to those. I had a Kerker exhaust and DynaIII ignition. Then, as much as liked the KZ, I traded it in on the new 1978 GS1000. I did the same mods to the GS. It was bit stronger than the KZ and it handled way way way better.

.... My 74 Z900 had the hardest seat.  I think of a telephone pole when I remember that seat.

My 1977 Laverda Jota pictured here (I bought it new and still have it) has a seat I called "The Vinyl Crucifix". Did it matter? Does it matter? Not a bit ...... I will never sell this bike.

I have the Concours, I want a KLR.

 I have done quite a few improvements to the Concours., its going up for sale, I will either trade it for another bike or sell it and buy another bike, KLR that is already well equipped hopefully.
 So I will still have an older design bike that gets the job done no problem at all.

Sweet......  A friend of mine restored 3 Tohatsus over the past 15 yrs of which one was a Runpet.
