Hrm.

This may not be going so well.

Last time (2004), a whole bunch of people just came in on Wednesday and stayed a night or two.

This time, a whole lot of people are coming in on Tuesday.  Not so many takers for a wednesday arrival.

The back rooms are filling up fast, in other words.  With 5 singles and 7 doubles, that's only room for 19 people (well, some of the singles are going to couples).  I figured history would repeat itself and the second night would be way more populous, and the extra rooms opening up on Wednesday would be perfect.

I'm going to look at other options, just in case.  Better to have a clusterfuck now than in May.  Sorry folks.   Crazy

In 2004 the meet was Wednesday/Thursday (not Tuesday/Wednesday like this year).  I think most people arrived on Wednesday (first day of the meet), but I might not remember correctly.  Some people left Thursday morning, because they had a long way to go, some stayed until Friday morning.  Headscratch

Other options within a block or two, with rooms available:

Travelers Inn.  Inexpensive, had a good time there in '04, but credit card issues for the CSTN crew last year.
Comfort Inn and Suites:  Fair number of double queens left, but only one single king.  It's also a Choice Hotel (like the Rodeway) so maybe we can extend our group rate for overflow if I ask really nicely.
Eureka Suites:  Highest rated in the immediate area, everyone loves the remodeled niceties, but the rooms are about $30-40 more per night.

Hate to split things up at all, but there doesn't seem to be enough availability for the whole group on Tuesday at any decent hotel in the area.

The Eureka Suites hotel has excellent reviews, says on their website that they're bike friendly, and has six single King rooms with kitchenettes and four double queen suites (good for a couple larger fellas who want to share a room but don't want to be in each other's pockets) with separate living room and kitchenette.  The singles are $69 per night, and the double suites are $89.

Gent who I talked to was brimming with Southern Hospitality.  Named Rick, and their phone number is 877-253-9990.

Eureka Suites is less than a quarter mile - easy walking distance - from the first hotel.

All the hotels I've mentioned so far, including several others, are all within a several-hundred-foot radius of one another.  If we do get distributed amongst a couple hotels, it will be disappointing and I'll feel like an ass for getting the days offset, but it's not tragic.

All the amenities - gas station, pancake house, liquor store - are a stone's throw from this cluster of hotels.

No one answered the phone at the Rodeway at 10PM local time so I emailed from their website but that didn't go through. Then I sent another email but haven't received a response yet. Requested the 10th and 11th.

Since it's the off-season, I doubt many hotels there have people manning the phones constantly later in the evening.  Since you're overseas, it may be difficult to find a time to call when you're awake at the same time they have more than one person manning the front desk.

FWIW, I've tried calling there a couple times past 9PM local time, and gotten the same result as you.

By all accounts, the fishing is awesome.

Yeah, the cost of living is a wee bit different in Arkansas than it is in SoCal.  But the roads are better in SoCal - after all, you have so damn many of them Razz

Those of you who are booking the double-queen rooms and are willing to share, please make it known so those looking for room-mates can PM you about it.

I just booked a double for Monday and Tuesday nights. "R Doug" and I are arriving a day early, spending all day Tuesday riding locally (TWISTIES!) and bolting for home (via Barber, N. Ga, Deals Gap, etc) on Wednesday morning...

Updated:

That's it for the Tuesday rooms at Swiss Holiday.

Kara at the Swiss Holiday recommends Land of Nod (Victorain elegance), Pine Top Lodge (100% non-smoking rooms) which are right across the street, and another I already mentioned, the Eureka Suites.  There's always Traveler's if we get really desperate.

I'll post phone numbers and contact names later today.

 Headscratch

yer just using the room for sleepin', showerin' and shittin'. Although I wouldn't take my daughter to Traveler's, it has worked pretty decent for a few meetings and they have PLENTY of room for bikes.

But I may not make the trip this year, so nevermind me.

It's not the quality of the rooms - mine was fine last time.  It's the quality of the service, insofar as we've had members cancel a reservation within the allowed time, gotten charged anyway, and had to fight tooth and nail to get their money back.  The place could have diamond-encrusted shower knobs and come with a free foot-rubbing midget in every room for all I care - I'm not giving them any of my money if they tried to defraud fellow STNers.
