Be careful Baja, 4-wheeled racing isn't generally allowed in Pit Row.  It's 2 wheels only.

Your F1 passion is welcome down in the Dungeon w/ the rest of us Eurotrash loving fools.  Lol

The finally ditched traction control so it should be a little more of a contest this year.  Maybe there will be a lead change after the first corner.   Razz

F1 once held my interest. The cars were wild and their drivers wilder. Jody Scheckter, Gilles Villanueve, Robbie Peterson, Vittorio Brambilla, et al, were wild practitioners of right foot flat and countersteer like a mofo. When one watched one of these race by one knew something special was happening. Nowadays? Eh, who downloaded the latest software?

Blame TC ABS SCand ground effects.
The odd part is that almost all of that has come down to us.
My wifes little bug has both TC and a mild version of SC. Apparently 180hp and being haped like half an egg aren't the best thing for high speed corners. Oh did I mention she has an automaic wing that pops up to keep the thing going straight?
But yes I agree. It has gotten very dull when compared to what it use to be. But things are slowly moving back. This year all that fun electronics are out. The only thing missing for some real fun is a bit of ground effect and maybe some better race tracks! Maybe more tracks like Montreal and less like say Turkey?
Hay does Moto GP race in Montreal? Or is it just too dangerous?

They are running spec ECUs this year,so,in theory, will be no traction control, and tire managment will be back again in drivers hands.

I might start watching F1 again,who knows.

I wouldn't cross the street to watch an F1 race. It's just awful. I'll admit, the cars are amazing. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily make for good racing.

The cars were sliding all over the place during practice.  It was much fun to watch.  Lewis Hamilton had a few nice power slides.  That's impressive in an open-wheeled car.   Thumbsup

Next year will be even better as they remove more than 1/3rd of the current downforce package which will allow for closing racing as "dirty" air won't have as much as an affect when the cars are closer to one another.

Qualifying is on now (live).  Q3 will be much more exciting this year because it's been cut down to 10 min from 15 and there will no longer be the stupid "fuel burn" period.

It is improving.

That wing was added after feedback from German drivers that the rear end of the bug got a little squirrely at over 120mph on the Autostrabe.  Smile

What? No results posted yet?

I didn't watch the race (no Speedtv for me) but did read the recap on crash.net. Sounds like a hell of a season opener, with plenty of action and heartbreak to go around. Those of you able to watch it should be well entertained.

There was more action in that one race than in all of last season.  Lack of traction control definitely created more exciting conditions.  Monaco should be real interesting.

Now if they could get to the finish with more than 7 cars running......

Edit - The race is going to replayed on Speed at 10:30 am Pacific time.

Did you see
My god did you see how far his car was thrown in the air! The guy is lucky he can still walk! Those cars don't exactly have much suspension travel and aren't really designed for that kine of vertical motion.
What got me was DC? I think he's starting to loose it. And Kimi....odds are he was most probably hung over.
But seeing the cars just throw their back end out like that......should make for some interesting racing. Though I'm afraid more crashes. For as I understand it due to the design of these engines they behave more like two strokes than say 4 strokes. And if you "get on the pipe" at the wrong place at the wrong time.......

Do you know how hard it's going to drive one of those cars when it rains!
Or in Bahrain with all that sand!
One of the comentators were stating that the drivers have to relearn how to drive because the new engines behave almost like two strokes.

I think that is where the commentators are slightly misspoken. If I understand right, the cars are more like switching from 2 stroke to 4 stroke. Before they had lots of sweet leccy stuff to manage back torque on down shifts. Now they have only the clutches to work wit and are seeing lots of lock-up and wheel chatter on down shifts. I think this will actually favor the younger drivers who haven't become comfortable with all the electronics yet.

Nah mate, I'm thing it was the other way around. Before the ECU would controll the cars wheel spin thus giving the car a nice even apparent power band. But now they are having to deal with an unchained crack head V8 and it's power spike!
Thus they can no longer power threw corners they have to puts threw "off the pipe".
Now my question is this, if this continues..........how are the teams going to afford all the replacement parts?

Sorry, thought you were talking about corner entry on the brakes. The drivers are talking of having much more trouble adjusting to this part than putting the power down coming out of the turns. Before this year they tapped away on the paddles and the car did all the work. Now they are having to relearn how to stop the cars all over again as well as turning and accelerating.

So this past sundays race....not bad hu? Not really exciting but not bad.
I think a lot has to do with the race track. Very long twists and turns and not much space for over taking.
Now if  you ask me.....and this is just me talking here. These race tracks suck! They need to be redesigned to allow more passing. It seems that the race tracks are set up for the best advertisement placement not the best racing line.

I love Massa, but for crying out loud! He has as good a chance as anyone to win the championship if he would just keep his head in the game. That spin was just crazy.
