Hi,

The wife & I are in Nelson looking for a place to live. We're re-locating from Vancouver. Anyway, Kaslo is our preferred area but there's not a lot available right now.

There's a few places to rent in Robson, but we don't know anything about this area. Anybody have any comments?

Thanks.

I live immediately next to Robson on the other side of Pass Creek here in Castlegar. That is called Raspberry. Robson is on the opposite side of the river from the large Pulp and Paper mill and sawmill along the Columbia River below Hugh Keenlyside Dam.

Depending on where you are it can be quite nice or, if you are too far up you and are close too the mills, it is not very nice at all. Older homes in the area. If you have an address, I would be happy to tell you where it is. PM me or post here. I will keep an eye out for a decent rental for you. Best of luck

That was fast!

I don't have any addresses but there are 3 listings currently in the Pennywise: 2 br house, 3 br house, and 2 br apartment. Hmm, pulp & paper mill...that doesn't sound very appealing.

We're going to check out a couple of places in Nelson today and head to Kaslo tomorrow. We're hoping that our presence and local contact will help us find something that isn't advertised yet.

Thanks.

People do tend to put up signs here rather than advertise. Also check the laundromats in each area for their bulletin boards. I would also check realty companies as they often know most what is going on.

Balfour would be cool. I see there's also some listings for Nelson too. All of a sudden the day is looking brighter. Thanks!!!

As Bubba says, Robson can be nice, or not.  There are some beautiful old properties up there.

The pulp mill is across the river, you might hear it, you'll definitely see it, and you may smell it.

If there's a rental in Balfour, that would get you at least partway to Kaslo.  I have friends in Harrup-Proctor, and realty is really starting to get kinda crazy over there.

There are a number of realty signs in my area, Crescent Valley (Krestova)--hey, it's spring!  Dunno how many rentals there are out here.   Some nice properties around, but it ain't Kaslo, that's for sure.

Are you gonna look as far up as Meadow Creek and Argenta?

Also, how long are you looking to rent?

Meadow Creek and Argenta might be a bit further out than we would like. We haven't been up that way in a while. Does it have a hockey and curling rink? I play hockey (goalie) and we both curl.

We'll probably rent for at least a year. We would like to buy but as you say, prices are going crazy.

And thanks for all your help. Don't you guys work?

Hey, if yer interested...I have some friends looking to rent their house for a couple of years while attending graduate school in the States.  They'll be here through the summer, will be leaving probably the beginning of August or so.

The house is a beautiful place, quite new, not too big or too small, hidden in the woods just south of Winlaw in the Slocan Valley.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer.

We just got back home from our trip. We found a small house to rent by the river through word of mouth. It helped being there to actually meet people and get leads rather than relying on ads. It's a short term rental through the summer, but there is a possibility that it can be extended or that we can rent out another place they own.

And thanks to BZ for directing us to the Discover Nelson webpage. There were a couple of strong leads on that site, one in Balfour and one in Nelson. We ultimately found something in Kaslo, which is where we really wanted to be.

So now we're trying to figure out what to take and what to put into storage.

We're both really excited about this move, although my wife got sick during the trip. So dealing with that and the stress of finding a place wasn't much fun for her.

I won't be able to make it to the BBQ but maybe I can hook up with some of you this summer.

Cheers.

Good news you found what you were looking for in Kaslo. It is a nice town in a beautiful setting.
