Any interest in a SWI/NIL Photo Tag?

Like the Bay Area Photo Tag.  One of my favorite threads on ST.N , evar!

The pics from the Manistique Big Boy combined with the fact that we can ride again made me think it was time.

The rules are the same as Bluepoof's:

* To start, someone posts a photo of their bike with a landmark, sign, etc.  Clues can be given along with the photo.

* Individually (or as a group if you're so motivated), other participants ride to the same place and get a photo with THEIR bike at the same spot.  

* The first person to "tag" the photo by posting their photo then posts the next photo for people to find.

*If no one is able to identify the tag, the poster can give progressively easier clues until someone finally says "AHA!" though please don't post the location of the tag until after someone else has tagged it.  The scavenger hunt is part of the fun.  Wink

Obviously, the boundaries are gonna be different.  To start off with, let's go from the Mississippi River on the West, the I-80 on the south, Lake Superior on the north, and I-69 on the East.

Yeah, that was cheating, just to get it started.

The object is to have a rush to go get a new pic taken there.  Hopefully by midsummer we'll have hordes of R4 riders crisscrossing the area trying to get to the next one first.

Nice pic there, though.   I know EXACTLY where that is, but won't be near there anytime soon.  Who's gonna get this next tag?  Try to get the same shot if you can.

I like the idea of playing "tag", but is there any particular reason for limiting the size of the "field" to less than the entirety of the states that make up Region 4?  I'm willing to bet that I"m not the only one that lives south of Chitown that would be willing to participate.

The reason the Bay Area Photo Tag is so active is due to the limited size of the region in which they're playing.  High concentration of riders in a certain area.  Theirs is actually a lot smaller than the one I proposed:



My only worry is expanding it too large thins out the rider density and will slow the game down.

On the other hand, we're all used to riding several hundred mile days to get to good riding, unlike the Bay Area types (who can almost fall out their front doors onto a twisty road) so maybe expanding the search area isn't such a hardship for the hardy R4 types.  But can we see how it goes at this level, then expand or contract the search area as needed?  How far south did you want to move the boundary line anyway?  I have  a feeling the area might be too big as it is, but we'll find out.

Since R4 is huge and this game has no prizes maybe we could split it up....



My example breaks it up into three but this suggestion was done without much thought and only to spark the discussion.

With the only rule change that we play tag within our section. That way the everyone can play, and the tagging will not be concentrated in any one area. We will need sperate threads for each area.

The areas I broke out are still huge so maybe there should be 4 or 5.  I think any area should cover more than one state just for variety.

What are your thoughts?

I like the idea of dividing the Region up into 3 sections and creating separate threads for each section.  This allows each section to be as active or inactive as the participants choose to be.

I will conceed that most of the conversations in Region 4 forum do seem to come from within the area originally proposed.  Therefore I withdraw my request to expand the playing area.

I wouldn't want to limit anyone to playing only within their 'home' section, but instead would suggest that all 'tag' points must be found within the borders of each section.

The game sounds like fun - let's get started.

Am I the only one who can't see Oddball's pics?  I found the images through the source code, but for some reason I can't see them on this page.  FWIW, all the other ones work fine.
