Are it and the battlefield worth detouring to see or should I stay on I-40 making time?

Its not to bad if you like historical sites.  It will at least be a break from the monotony of 40.

This soldier, I realized, must have had friends at home and in his regiment; yet he lay there deserted by all except his dog. I looked on, unmoved, at battles which decided the future of nations. Tear

Chief Magpie is the interesting character in this story.

I hear they had to get an unlisted number.  Too many crank calls from the Pot museum across the road....

I was going to ask if you wanted some local company for the museum and battlefield, as I've been meaning to get out there for some time now, but I'll be in Cozumel that weekend. Have fun.

Oh, while you're in Clayton, make sure you visit the Eklund Saloon and Hotel (http://www.theeklund.com). Check out the historical stuff on the walls in the saloon. If you ask, they'll show you the rooms upstairs and tell you about their ghost. And the restaurant is excellent.

The Black Kettle museum is no longer.  It closed when the park sevice opened it's visitor center.  I enjoyed my visit to the battlefield.
There's a bridge out on 33 East of there, so don't plan on using it to get there.
