Rear/pit stand.

Why would one need a rear pit stand?  I understand putting a bike on a stand for maintence, but is there any advantage to storing a bike on a stand?

Remember a lot of track/race bikes don't have sidestands.  A pit stand or chock is better than just leaving them there lying on the ground.

Race bikes don't have kickstands, so it is either that, a Baxley, or lean it up against something. At the track you are also likely to be doing a lot of maintenance, especially changing tires.

Main advantage to storing on a rear stand is the bike it vertical and takes less space. It also keeps the rear tire off the ground.

My bikes are stored on a rear stand and a front stand or wheel chock in the trailer most of the time. They are vertical, stable, and easy to work on that way.

I've read that leaving a bike in storage, on its side stand can cause fork seals to fail.
