New FJR accessories

I am considering an FJR and noticed the Canadian site has a few (new?) wind protection accessories that I have never seen mentioned - .  Does anyone have info on their looks and effectiveness?

The first is:

Dont know, but that kind of coin should buy you a really decent pair of boots.

Both these "accessories" have been available either on the Euro site or in the aftermarket since the 04 came out.

Most of us use sligtly modified late model V-strom handguards, which since they're closer to the bar than the Yammie units, and less than half the cost, make them a popular choice.

The footguards?  I've ridden in a lot of rain on my Feejers, and have never felt the urge to buy such devices.  Money would probably be better served buying a pair if heated electric socks and good boots if you have tender tootsies.

Thanks for the V-Strom parts tip - I ride a DL-650 right now and agree that the handguards are quite effective.  As I was looking for something to make an FJR match that level of hand protection, I am pleased that the Strom parts can be fitted.

I have the color matched footshields from Europe which fit without having to drill the bodywork, and look way better than the black ones.

They are a tad warm in the summer, but they really do make a difference in keeping the tootsies warm and dry in the winter, and make cleaning and treating the boots less of a chore.

I see you have a Gen 2 bike.  Are the Euro colors the same as the US for each year, and where can a person buy the footguards?

I found out that the Euro Silver Storm is the same color as our Cerullean Silver from Colorite, then got in touch with a buddy of mine who just happens to have a dealership back in Scotland. Ordered them and had a family member collect them and bring them over. Strength of the dollar against the Euro meant they were spendy, but I ended up getting them for free as a birthday gift. Going to see if my lovely sister feels like getting me some handguards for Xmas...

I will be going back to Scotland for New Years, (since I found out that Americans like to watch the ball droip then go to bed, whereas Scotsmen like to party a wee bit longer!!!),  so may be able to squeeze an extra set into my luggage.

If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll snap a piccie or two and post them up.

  I just put V Strom hand guards on my FJR. I got them from fjrgoodies.com I think the total was $66.00 shipped. They went on like they were made for the FJR.

Love mine, never bothered to fit electric grips after fitting these.

People at fjrforum.com say it will work fine, but you need to add a couple of washers to the t-meister to act as spacers.

My solution was to just grab my Dremel and cut off the parts of the handguards that attach to the bar end, making them look like more traditional dirt hand guards.  Both the handguards and tm work fine.

I have the footshields and they are a huge improvement in protection from the weather. (Really keep the rain out) Some have complained that they are a little warm in the peak of summer, but that only lasts a few days here.  

These would be a must for anyone who does a lot of riding in cool or wet weather. Only drawback is that the one on the left side makes removing the oil filter a bit difficult. I have removed them and notice a big difference in air around my boots.

You can order these in the different colours for each year. Yes, they are pricey, but they work and I like them. I managed to get mine for free off the dealer when I bought a year old unit still in the crate.

My dealer informed me that Yamaha Canada Parts/Accessories come out of Europe and not the USA. This is the reason why we have different options up here.

(You can see here how it does sort of cover up the oil filter. These things come off in two minutes though, and you can still get at the oil filter, but it is a bit difficult.)
