I'm in that bracket too gentlemen, and I think I'm about to discover the fountain of youth. I'm thinking very very seriously of trading the ST3 for an 848.

I'm 53. I ride every day and yes my riding style is a bit conservative. it is embarrassing when old people fall down...
Yeah it hurts worse and takes longer to heal. On the other hand I have less of my life left to enjoy, better get a move on.

I'm 59 years young and have been riding on and off since I was 16. I ride my C-10 to work as much as possible and on the weekends ride with my 33 year old son with his ZR1. Being old is only a state of mind.

I'm 57 and about to RETIRE!! That's old. I too have slowed down "in old age". I friend and I went "up North" last the weekend. His GPS Max.Speed only showed 129.8.
We've definately slowed down..

Shit I traded my Busa in for a weestrom last year...at age 27. I even bought a heated vest this year, and a larger windshield. I've also been wearing a hi-viz roadcrafter suit for the past 5 years. I'll be lucky to see 40.

I'm old (closer to 60 than 50).
Old and slow is O.K.
FAST AND STUPID - Not so much.
I'd rather be old and slow. I still get there.

Just a thought, but I've come to believe we're getting wiser, not older!

I will be 52 in April but Monday I offically became old
This confirms I am getting old, I did a twelve hour ride on Monday and rode at or near the speed limit all day. I even got passed by a diesel pick up!
We started in CT and took the highway to Brattleboro VT then it was a trip through the green mountains, over lake Champlain via the Ferry and then down through and the Adirondacks via rt 22 till we were parallel with Mass. We took rt 7 and 23 over to the Berkshires then back to CT. We spent ten hours in the mountains with incredible scenery and I don't think I was over the speed limit by more than a few till I hit rt 8 at the end of the ride. By then I needed a "fix" and rode rt 8 at "ludicrous speed". I rode with my friend mark who I met on the GSR.( another MC website) he now also has a ZZR1200 but is a much more subdued rider and If I picked the pace up it just meant I would have to wait longer for him to catch up so I never picked the pace up. What an enjoyable ride! Ill have to try that law abiding stuff again,I may be on to something here
Dude, your not old its all in your head .I'm right there in age and if I ride the speed limit I day dream to much and don't pay attention. So I like to ride Spirited (by the seat of my pants
) and this allows me to get rid of everything on my mind and solely concentrate on my riding I find this exhilarating and at the end of the day I'm 29 for the third time.

I envy you retiring at 57. For a while it looked like retiring at 55 instead of 65 would become the norm. Now it looks like they'll have to pry the mouse out of my cold dead hands.

I left the 50's in the dust of my XX. I did 1522 miles this past weekend and I never went above the speed limit once. Well one of those points is accurate. The other one I won't discuss, officer.
I hope to be riding in my 70's. My buddy's dad is 82 and he still rides his BMW.

two great t-shirts:
first, a pic of an HRD Vincent, with the tag line being "Old Guys Go as Fast as They Want to," or something close to that
2ndly, "We don't stop riding because we get old, we get old because we stop riding"
signed, the 58-year-old that BARELY ducked a performance award yesterday (taking off the lid, blinding the occifer with grey hair got the award knocked down to a warning and a "Do you think you can keep it down close to town, sr?"

You're old when you spend more time eating bran flakes and talking about riding than on the bike.

As I choke on a mouthful of Uncle Sam Bran cereal... 'Scuse me my dear young thing... But bran is a
GOOD
thing and as the body ages, it helps to keep things in order... What's that make me when I take a box of US with me on a trip???
Try riding when yer all bound up!

You kids just don't know what you're missing. Sixties! Now, the fifties. That's where to good stuff was. Sixties was a bunch of flower children. Fifties was BSA and Norton 650's and Triumph Bonnivilles (the original ones, that is) and Royal Enfields and Indians and real Harleys that leaked oil and shook (okay, they still do, but not as bad) Yup, them was the days.
52 isn't old, 65 isn't old, riding the speed limit isn't old. Old is a state of mind.

The 80's haven't even happened yet, the 90's is a liberal myth, and the 21st century is happening only in the eleventh dimension.
