Kate has decided she's ready to come with me for a ride this Saturday.

We're thinking about going up into WI for coffee somewhere, then go for a ride somewhere.

We haven't come up with any ideas yet, but are open. Where are those guys who like to post routes but don't come very often?  Razz

We were thinking of doing coffee somewhere (I'm open to the locals' suggestions) the southern KMSD and then either the northern KMSD or something further west. We were thinking not all day, just a few hours worth of riding and then home. (so we don't have to get a dog-sitter)

If no one has suggestions by Friday, I'll reluctantly look at a map and come up with a vague-but-fun plan. Remember, I'm not a GPS guy yet. Wink

Weather-permitting, I can ride Saturday...unless I'm at the BREWERS Game!

I'm thinking maybe coffee somewhere in the early AM, then head up to Chippewa Falls and see about the Leinenkugel's brewery tour.  I'll need to check with the wife and see if we can have our neighbor let the dog out. More to come soon.

If you could post a meeting time and place somewhere in southern WI, I (and possibly a few other) could meet up with yas.

If you want to sample beer, I know of a good brew pub that is closer than Chippewa Falls.  The beer is better than the Leinenkugel stuff, but of course there is no brewery tour, so if that is what you want to see the brew pub won't work.

I'm up for a ride, but probably later in the day...mid-afternoon through to sunset is probably when I'll be out and about...dodging Bambo and adding to my carbon footprint.

Anybody else interested in a Saturday afternoon jaunt, let me know...

Also, I'm heading out of town for a couple of weeks...so Sunday AM will be my last chance to ride (here, at least!) for some time.  Anybody planning coffee, pancakes, and bacon hereabouts?

How about we meet somewhere near the intersection of 67 & 18, near Dousman. Anyone know a good place for breakfast in that area?

In the interest of getting there in time, I'll plan the route to try to hit twisty roads on the way up there, but not every twisty road.  It is a long ride up there, so we'll probably slab at least part of the way back, depending on how we feel afterwards.

Here's my suggested route from there:

1) 67 N to 94 W. Slab to Madison

2) Turn NW on 94 near Madison

3) Exit W on 19

4) NW on 12 across the river

5) W on 60 along the river, past Richland Center, Boscobel, and Prarie du Chien

6) N on 35 (Great River Rd.) along the Mississippi

7) wait a minute. This is a long damn way for a one-day ride. Probably close to 1000 miles.  Time to heed Ben's advice and pick something closer....

More in a moment

If anyone is willing to make an overnighter out of this, and stick with the original optimistic plan, I will look into it with Kate and the dog-sitter.  Otherwise, here's a route that I'll plan on taking.

1) 67 N to 94 W. Slab to Madison

2) Turn NW on 94 near Madison

3) Exit W on 19

4) NW on 12 across the river

5) W on 60 along the river, past Spring Green, Boscobel to Prarie du Chien

6) NE on 27 at Prarie du Chien

7) E on Plum Creek Rd. at Eastman

8) NW on Haddock Hill Rd.

9) NE on Morovits Hollow Rd.

10) E on 179 to Steuben

11) Jog N then E on Railroad St.

12) E on CR-E

13) Jog NE on WI-60, then S on US 61 into Boscobel

14) E on Mary St. in Boscobel, continue E on Fremont St., then continue on CR-MS

15) Continue SE on CR-S

16) E on Sleepy Hollow Rd.

17) Jog S on CR-T, then SE on Zinck Rd.

18) E on Neff Rd. at the tee (turns north)

19) E on Witek Rd.

20) S on CR-GQ

21) E on CR-G (turns south)

22) E on Bowers Rd.

23) Jog S, then continue E on Steil Rd. (then, it turns south)

24) E on CR-I

25) S on Willow Springs Rd. (which turns east)

26) S on WI-80 into Dodgeville

27) S on 23 in Dodgeville

28) E on E. Division St. in Dodgeville

29) SE on WI-191 into Hollandale

30) E on WI-39 in Hollandale, continue into New Glarus

31) S on 69 into Monroe

32) E on 81 in Monroe through Beloit

33) Pick up I-43 east of Beloit and slab home (I'll peel off on US-14 to get home)

If that turns out to be too aggressive with regards to back roads on the way home, we can just start heading south from wherever we are until we hit WI-11, continue on 81 in Monroe, and pick it up from step 32, above.

We'll meet at 67 & 18 near Dousman at 9 AM.  Anyone know any breakfast places near there.

We'll stop for food & gas as required in the bigger towns.

Pace will be just shy of peg-scraping on the backroads, and 5-10 over on state roads and larger. (I have a detector)

The Delafield BrewHaus has sunday brunch, but doesn't open till 11 on Sat (I just called).

The Lumber Inn in Delafield has GREAT breakfast, but if we don't get there before 9:30, we'd prob have to wait to be seated - and there's no way we'd be seated together if there's more than 4 of us.  It's a small place. They do have outside seating in summer, dunno if/when they take the tables in.
Oh.. wait.. that's on Sundays.  They open at 6 on Sat!

There is a Perkins on I-94 @ Delafield...

Hip - Thanks for the info, I'll try to make a reservation. It looks like there's just 4 of us for now. (Ben, you, me, & Kate)

Any lurkers please post up. Or if you are smug about your lurkitude, ask someone to post up on your behalf.

I'm going to try to make a reservation for about 6 of us, which will accomodate two lurkers or late-joiners.

There is a mexican cafe about a mile South of I-94 on 67...adjacent to a gas station.  Don't know when they open on Sunday...but it's always been good when I've eaten there.

I guess you don't like Hipgnosis' idea of the Lumber Inn for breakfast.

Let's stick with that, unless they're closed or there's a huge wait at the Lumber Inn. Black Canyon will be our back-up plan.

I plan to stop at that gas station you mentioned on the way up to Lumber Inn anyway.

I just got back a few minutes ago.  Good ride today JZ.  A little something in there to test every facet of your riding skill set.  I had a little more than 400 miles for the day.  Mike is probably still out there, freezing.  I hope Jim did not have any more oiling issues.
Good to see you again Scott.  Until next time.

Great route Jeremy, I had a blast. The FJR stretched its tires today in good way and I got to try it out in FKLR mode as well  Lol

Hope you & Kate stayed warm on the way home.

Jim, did the oil issue go away?

Scott, nice to meet you.

Thanks again Jeremy & Kate for being today's ride hosts.

Phew. We just got home at 9:20.  526 miles for us. The sun set on us when we were in Galena. We had a fun time using SUVs to run deer interference for us. I figured it was tall enough that it wouldn't just launch the deer up to land on us. It would tenderize him but good.

Hey, I was glad to lead. Sorry for the 5-10 miles of gravel roads. On Google Maps, they all look the same. I missed a few turns, on account of SW WI not marking a bunch of roads, but we wound up in the right vicinity anyhow.

We did have a bit of everything, didn't we? gravel, 100 mph sweepers, tight technical stuff with the trademark Wisconsin blind hills & turns, as well as superslab. Hell, tractors & deer also made their cameo appearances. (right after blind hills, of course!)

Nice you see you all again. I think the rest of the season's rides are destined to be a bit shorter. It did get cold in a hurry when the sun went down. Kate was wearing the full rain suit for wind protection by the time we got home. The passenger gets the worst of the wind blast.

Ben, did you ever think of getting a Goldwing, so you could bring your lovely wife along more often?

Jim, do post up so we don't have mental pictures of you at the side of the road with a smoking Beemer. I think if it was still dripping or smoking after we tightened the oil filler cap, it was because there was still a bunch of oil pooled inside the fairing lower.

Yep, I made it home Okay.
I had a good day, despite the oil leak.  Can't tell ya how relieved and stupid I felt when Jeremy found the oil fill cap was lose...  I stopped a couple times to check for more leaking and the oil level.   No more leaking, didn't have to add any oil.  Guess I owe Jeremy for a 'field repair'.  Sorry for the oil mist on your bike Ben.
I went north and then took 171 and N east.  N was really nice.
I hit a small bit of gravel too.  But that took the oil off the rear tire, which let me enjoy the sweepers on N.
A small bird hit me in the chest.  Luckily no guts on the jacket. There was a hawk eating something in my lane.. he barely moved when I went around him. And I had to go around a group of young pheasants or quails crossing the road.
I tried out some new non-perforated, non-insulated gloves, which worked good with the Beemers heated grips.

You should let him know that that rule - 40mph over - would just give people more incentive to run, especially on a bike.

How long were you in and when did you get out?

We were riding Sat., and he posted Tuesday evening...

People should also be aware that WI can (not sure how wide spread it is) require out-of-state drivers to 'post' a cash 'bond' for speeding tickets.  I thought it was a urban legand when I first heard of it, but then I saw it on the news.
The LEOs take Visa or MasterCard debit and credit cards right there on the side of the road via a card swiper.
