Who wants to go for a ride this Saturday, Oct. 4?

Kate has decided she's ready to come with me for a ride this Saturday.

We're thinking about going up into WI for coffee somewhere, then go for a ride somewhere.

We haven't come up with any ideas yet, but are open. Where are those guys who like to post routes but don't come very often?

We were thinking of doing coffee somewhere (I'm open to the locals' suggestions) the southern KMSD and then either the northern KMSD or something further west. We were thinking not all day, just a few hours worth of riding and then home. (so we don't have to get a dog-sitter)

If no one has suggestions by Friday, I'll reluctantly look at a map and come up with a vague-but-fun plan. Remember, I'm not a GPS guy yet.

I'm thinking maybe coffee somewhere in the early AM, then head up to Chippewa Falls and see about the Leinenkugel's brewery tour.  I'll need to check with the wife and see if we can have our neighbor let the dog out. More to come soon.

If you want to sample beer, I know of a good brew pub that is closer than Chippewa Falls.  The beer is better than the Leinenkugel stuff, but of course there is no brewery tour, so if that is what you want to see the brew pub won't work.

I'm up for a ride, but probably later in the day...mid-afternoon through to sunset is probably when I'll be out and about...dodging Bambo and adding to my carbon footprint.

Anybody else interested in a Saturday afternoon jaunt, let me know...

Also, I'm heading out of town for a couple of weeks...so Sunday AM will be my last chance to ride (here, at least!) for some time.  Anybody planning coffee, pancakes, and bacon hereabouts?

How about we meet somewhere near the intersection of 67 & 18, near Dousman. Anyone know a good place for breakfast in that area?

In the interest of getting there in time, I'll plan the route to try to hit twisty roads on the way up there, but not every twisty road.  It is a long ride up there, so we'll probably slab at least part of the way back, depending on how we feel afterwards.


Here's my suggested route from there:

1) 67 N to 94 W. Slab to Madison

2) Turn NW on 94 near Madison

3) Exit W on 19

4) NW on 12 across the river

5) W on 60 along the river, past Richland Center, Boscobel, and Prarie du Chien

6) N on 35 (Great River Rd.) along the Mississippi

7) wait a minute. This is a long damn way for a one-day ride. Probably close to 1000 miles.  Time to heed Ben's advice and pick something closer....

23) Jog S, then continue E on Steil Rd. (then, it turns south)

If that turns out to be too aggressive with regards to back roads on the way home, we can just start heading south from wherever we are until we hit WI-11, continue on 81 in Monroe, and pick it up from step 32, above.

We'll stop for food & gas as required in the bigger towns.

Pace will be just shy of peg-scraping on the backroads, and 5-10 over on state roads and larger. (I have a detector)

The Delafield BrewHaus has sunday brunch, but doesn't open till 11 on Sat (I just called).

The Lumber Inn in Delafield has GREAT breakfast, but if we don't get there before 9:30, we'd prob have to wait to be seated - and there's no way we'd be seated together if there's more than 4 of us.  It's a small place. They do have outside seating in summer, dunno if/when they take the tables in.
Oh.. wait.. that's on Sundays.  They open at 6 on Sat!

There is a Perkins on I-94 @ Delafield...

There is a mexican cafe about a mile South of I-94 on 67...adjacent to a gas station.  Don't know when they open on Sunday...but it's always been good when I've eaten there.

I guess you don't like Hipgnosis' idea of the Lumber Inn for breakfast.

Let's stick with that, unless they're closed or there's a huge wait at the Lumber Inn. Black Canyon will be our back-up plan.

I plan to stop at that gas station you mentioned on the way up to Lumber Inn anyway.

I just got back a few minutes ago.  Good ride today JZ.  A little something in there to test every facet of your riding skill set.  I had a little more than 400 miles for the day.  Mike is probably still out there, freezing.  I hope Jim did not have any more oiling issues.
