Yes, because all anyone needs to sport tour is a motorcycle with every conceivable electronic bullshit gadget known to man attached to a couch with two wheels.

I liked my 02 Wing 1800. I didn't like that it overheated and the 'fix' did not fix it. Also did not like the budget suspension. Or the soft paint that scratched just by sneezing on it. Or the weird manually adjustable windshield when other sport-tourers had electric adjust. Or the cracked frame (a recall from a class action suit has just been announced - you can read about it on
http://powersports.honda.com/the_story/press/release/?Year=2008&TargetURL=Press_Release/Press_20135.asp
). Or that from a liquid cooled over head cam fuel injected 6 cylinder motor it only made 100hp/120ftlb. That kind of hardware shoulda made 180hp/150lbft.
Looooved the handling, brakes, motor sound and feel.

Not only are pugs visually offensive, but are among the most annoying dogs I have encountered. Their breathing is constantly loud and obnoxious, snorting, snoring, etc all the time. The noises they make are bad enough, but their forward curled tails make their poo-dripping posterior an unfortunate sight that is difficult to miss when it walks by....
Never rode a Goldwing, nor thumbed 'reverse' and hitched a trailer....

I would actually say that for ALL AROUND use, the FJR or ST is better, but the 'Wing does rule the full-bore touring segment.

I never want to ride any bike that I (a) can't pick up or push easily, and (b) is able to tow a trailer. If I'm towing a f'ing trailer I'm taking the car.

Hmm, if I had a Goldwing than besides owning a motorcycle heavier than the Queen Mary, I'd have to stock up on chino pants, plaid shirts, 3/4 Bell helmets, deerskin gloves, vests that have so many rally and ride pins affixed to them they double as chainmail, get enough communications gear to make NASA jealous, and then ride with equally geeked out ancient crones hauling our color-coordinated pop-up campers.
Just shoot me, instead.

If Pugwing loves their Goldwing, then good on em. Who cares, if it makes that person happy then why the put down? Always seems to be the FJR crowd leading the pile on. You guys have a small penis complex going on????
Note: I predict that my FJR comment will take this thread to at least 12 pages with a minimum of 30 posts of rabid frothing at the mouth about BMW's throwing shaft drives, blah, blah, blah, etc, etc. Please proceed, and let the Winter Games begin!

Well, this thread is pure silliness.
But... taking it seriously, to a degree, I have had a few bikes that were the "BEST".
I thought that my BMW K1200LT (the other full boat tourer that is not Harley or Harley Styled) was the BEST - before that I had a few other bests and now I have another BEST the R1200GS.
What is "Best" is whatever bike fits your needs and desires most closely. That, and the one that gives you the biggest grin in the process.

If I wanted a two wheeled honda with a bunch of electrical gizmos, I'd buy a loaded civic and take two of the wheels off.
But I've put about 6k on my second 250 since I got it in June and most people find that odd. Insurance adjuster tried to screw me on the last one by calling 20k "high mileage"
I should have told the pussy that was just fully broken in, not that he'd know.

So many nights I sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his soooong
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark but now
You've come along
Youuuuuuuuuu light up my life
You give me hooooooooope
To carry oooooooooon
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song
Rollin' at sea, adrift on the water
Could it be finally I'm turning for home?
Finally, a chance to say hey,
I love You
Never again to be all alone
Youuuuuuuuu light up my life
You give me hooooooooooooope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song
Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
uuuuuuu light up my life
You give me hoooooooooooooope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song
It can't be wrong
When it feels so right
'Cause Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
You light up my liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

I can't disagree. Clearly I have to spend some miles on a Gold Wing to see if you are correct.

So speaketh the man that owns two Pacific Coasts!
News flash. A Wing 1800 will smoke a Pacific Coast on the straights, in the turns, on the brakes. All while sipping a latte.
Wow, that's like saying an RV is faster and more comfortable than a conversion van.

I recently read about the class action suit. Little things like the frame falling apart are such a distraction to owners.
I am curious if the 1800 Goldwings are different from the 1500's, 1200's, 1100's and 1,000's. The Goldwing has a history of a flat boxer engine with a single cam for each head. Did Hyosung make a knock-off of the Wing like they did for the SV650? This could explain part of your problem.

But that raises the question: What kind of moron would buy a Wing as a go-fast bike?
If I wish to play race the Wingers welcome to try to keep up with my R1100RT. And if they can, then it is indeed sad that they would need another 700cc and 4 more cylinders to be able to do it!
And I don't drink "girlie drinks". Real Men drink coffee. But you made your point very well about Gold Wingers!

I test rode the Piaggio 250 MP3 and it was a blast, although gutless on the hwy. Besides having no tank to put a knee into, the other quirky deal is the engine turns about 7K no matter how easy or hard you're riding.

I think pugs are great...
...especially with some onions, potatoes, carrots, and cilantro.
When I was a kid a friend of mine was walking his pug late one summer night and decided to pay me a visit. My bedroom was on the ground floor, and he held up his ULD* up to the screen window so only its misshapened little head could be seen from inside. Because of its mashed-in snout, it made a soft snoring noise when it breathed.
Well I heard a noise and glanced over at the window and 'bout pinched a loaf in my shorts. I thought ET had landed in Levittown, PA and proceeded to run screaming like a little girl from the room.
He never let me live it down.

Okay - I'll jump in
Currently here there are three Goldwings (two for sale) and one Pug (not for sale).
The GL-1200 is my choice for commuting to work, and they're not the electro-gadgets that people would believe.

My 1200 Interstate was a much better bike than the Valk IS that I replaced it with. I was dazzled with the new and made the mistake of trading...

Pug, is NOT a dog.
Real dogs look like something you want to pet, not punt.

Ah yes, Mr. Positive.
At least with a pug, you know which end to feed!

No "S"!!!
