I've been to Garmin's website and can't find a definitive answer.  Adding to the equation, I'll be attempting this using a I-Mac!?!

Has anyone tried this?

I've got a BMW Navigator 2.5 (which I believe is equivalent to the Garmin 2610).  The Nav 2.5 will take a 2 gig card capable of storing additional maps, so if topos are a available for the Garmin, it "should" work ... .

Many thanks,

I checked out all the current topo maps from Garmin, and none of them list compatibility with the 2610 or any Street Pilot Sad  Still, it couldn't hurt to give them a call.

I can't tell you for sure it'll work on the 2610, but it should.  I've used Topo on the 1st StreetPilot.  The problem is, you need to turn off the street layers to get to see the topo.  Tech support for Garmin is pretty good, shoot them an email.

Topo maps should work fine but you do have to turn off the City Nav maps to see them. Topo will not auto route on the GPS unit, but routes created on a PC can be uploaded and followed. IIRC you can create a route on the GPS (auto route) in City Nav, save the route, then turn off City Nav with the route still active and the SP will follow the route in Topo. This works on my Chartplotters and I'm pretty sure the Zumo users over at ADVRiders have used the process so it should work on a Street Pilot. All of this is possible on a Mac using RoadTrip, MapManager and MapInstall. The Topo maps will have to be installed on a PC first and converted to Mac format using the converter available from Garmin's website.

Try one of the free Topo maps available Here to test it on your unit. There are also some good tutorials on the site. Good Luck.
