On the z or the r1? Tires on the r1 are just being finished off so new pp's can go on. Tires on the z only have about 200 miles on them

So on Father's day I was given a Nikon D3100   . Having a ball learning how to use it, but I am hoping one of the experts here could direct me somewhere that gives a good breakdown of F stops, shutter speeds, etc.. and how they relate to each other to help with my learning curve.

Well Max with what you show here I don't believe you are needing too much help. However its all based on light, a small aperture will give you greater depth of field or focus, large apertures will focus less on the back ground making your object more noticeable. Faster shutter speeds allow less light. ISO is the speed of the sensor (or film) the higher the number the more light sensitive it is, however lower numbers offer less noise (grain in film)  I hope this helps.

I was always taught good photography is accomplished by talking lots of photos and keeping only the good ones.

Thank you, and yes that does help. I have been shooting lots of identical pics with different settings to try and get a feel for what I want and how to get it.

One other quick question for those familiar with the Nikon: I am looking a t a 55-200 or 55-300 lens. Any idea what would be better to go with? Is there any reason not to go with the 300? I am looking to shoot wildlife and track photos, and maybe some up-close photos at outdoor venues.

Looking good. One thing you might concentrate on when you're framing each shot is keeping the horizon straight.

I must confess, these were taken at 2AM, which is when the bars close in Michigan.   I was NOT driving or riding, the Mrs. and I walked to get these pics. I think I was lucky just walking.
