So here's when I'll be in Europe and out of class:
May 7-11
June 23-July 2
August 14-18

I've found a few moto-rental places in the UK, and I'd like to ride around the countryside for a few days, hopefully up in Scotland. So what if those crazy bastards drive on the wrong side of the road?

Anyone have any knowledge of this company? Website looks kind of unprofessional, but that may not be a reflection of the business...
Great price on a Bandit or GSF 650 rental.

Do you often find that you have that effect on people? Wink

I doubt that I will be in a position to go abroad much this year, things are a bit expensive at the moment. Just give me a shout if you're over here in the UK however! I can always take time off work for a bike trip  Bigok

Woohoo! I know that the UK/Scotland may not be much of an international meet for you, but maybe we can have enough crazies come to make the attendants international.

At least I'll have someone to ride with.  Smile
The price at that place looks really good, but it may be too good to be true.  Headscratch

If yer renting a bike in London, Scotland is a little too far away for just 1 week.

I would suggest Wales...

or

Devonshire & Cornwall

The rental place that I'm looking at is in York - just a little over 100 miles from Scotland - about 200 from Edinburgh. Too far, you think?

Which time of year would be best for Scotland/UK? Early May, late June/early July or mid-August?

Scotland has a three day summer, so it's difficult to pin down when it will occur  Bigsmile

average rainfall for Kilmarnock, Scotland.

York is relatively close to Scotland. Take the motorway to Glasgow to get to the good bits on the west coast.

An alternate would be to head west across the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District. That would make a nice one week trip.

I'd suggest you forget planning a meet due to weather restraints. Wait until you arrive, then decide on a destination based on where the rain is (or rather isn't  Lol )

But being the U.K. it's required by law to rain at least once a day, no matter what.  Bigsmile

I wouldn't take the motorway to Glasgow from York, I would definitely take the cross country route and then work your way up the West Coast. I grew up in the Pennines and the Lakes, a beautiful part of the world  Thumbsup

I got a whole 10 days of scorching sun when I went to Scotland in May  EEK!
I couldn't believe what was going on, it was quite disconcerting!

Any interest?

Only if you supply the rain gear.  Lol

Ant had to wait months for those shots with the blue sky.  Wink

Sorry, but I just haven't had the best of luck the few times I've been there. Although I'll put up with the rain when I go back to Ireland one day to visit my old college.

In case you don't know, York is a cool city, worth spending some time in.

It was the main city in northern England since the Roman times, so lots of history.

Weather is always a bit of a lottery...May is usually good, tho. Not last year, except in Scotland-which had the best summer.

Might be best to check where you can fly into and then organise bike hire nearby. I think there's an airport near York...(checked) yes, there is.....mainly internal flights and flights to the USA.

No Stonehenge or Bath?

Maybe. It depends on how much I feel like solo touristing. I prefer to gawk with company.

Having just returned to the UK from Canada for the summer or possibly longer, I may just be in a position to make it to Scotland, a country that I have neglected in my travels as I usually head south and across the English Channel. Now all I have to do is get myself a bike!
