I love those SS's. I really, really miss my old 900 SS. It had the Ducati Performance pipes and really "boomed". Great pics, thanks for sharing and reminding me how fun Ducs can be.

Thanks for the comments. The 800SS now has a Sargent tri-colore seat and Ducati DP high rise mufflers, just don't have a pic of that set up yet (thanks Jobu for selling me the stuff!).
It's unfortunate the problems that you had with your MS, I had similar issues with my old Wing 1800 which is why I finally sold it (and cuz I test rode the St4s!).
It happens, unfortunately.
motorcycle.com did a comparo which included the MS and the new BMW R1200R. Here's the link:

Nice write up there. I do love the MTS but can't get past the amount of trouble I have had with it. When I am ready for a second bike it will be a Duc though.

I'm glad the parts found a good home.
The seat was super comfy and the pipes sound wonderful (although it was hard to hear that wonderful intake roar). I've really been going through a lot of seller's remorse (not over the parts...but the bike). That SS simply worked for me. 25,000 worry-free miles complete with tons of smiles. I may end up with a 1000DS sometime in the future.
atypical1...I was truly bummed to hear about the problems you have experienced with your MTS. I hate to see that kind of thing happen to anyone, regardless of the brand. Best of luck regarding your search for a new bike. Your posts, along with Miles', have been quite entertaining and informative.
Cheers,
Joe

Nice pics! You should really mention where they were taken. Also, I'm surprised that you feel comfortable riding around in those little red shorts.

Love those older SS! When I got back into riding they had just switched to the newer look. I would love that old look with the newer 1100DS motor!

I've got a hankering to get a topcase for my St4s. Please spare the details of yours. Is that from a Ducati dealer or someplace else? What would I need? (brackets, rack, topcase). Can I get a backrest pad for it?
Thanks!

Right from the Ducati catalog. Made by Givi and the kit comes with everything you need to install it. Including not so detailed instructions in Italian. Givi does not sell it to consumers. You have to get it through Ducati.Top notch stuff. List price is $514 I believe. Helped a friend install one on his ST3S.

Actually all Anna did was order the mounting brackets, the top case is from her 954, she switches back and forth between bikes.
I ordered mine from the dealer....took it home for just shy of $485 tax included. I was kind of pissed I couldn't buy directly from Givi. The instructions actually were pretty damn good, but I can read Italian
